I've never been.
I've just been invited to go.
Is it good?
Should I go?
Free and open to all. Like your mum.
and we stood around in the sun, drinking, eating curried goat and jerk chicken, watching the floats and sound systems go by, generally having a good time.
Curried goat wi' dumplings!
but I can't imagine I'd get much out of it. I don't really understand carnivals in general - there just seems to be a lot of standing around and I can't help but wonder why we're not at the pub.
Lots of semi-related carnival events around it though, such as Why Not? which is on tomorrow night at The Scala. Untold v Ben UFO! Brackles! Shortstuff! N-Type! Plastician!
Should be good.
i mean, maybe go, really early on when they have amazing food. yum yum, i love carribean food.
but otherwise, during the day you're guaranteed to have a massive headache, get annoyed as you will be unlikely to see anything unless you push your way to the front (where they will be a ridiculous police presence) and you will just feel frustrated and angry when you realise you want to go home, but it is near impossible to escape
Finding the Good Times bus and dancing in the street to a rare groove set from Norman Jay can be fun. As can scoffing bbq fud. As can having a beer on the streets.
But it's all to easy to get bundled up in a hella busy crowd.
and requiste coconut with straw on it. don't do this, you will feel stupid, bit like prince charles. stick to beer
In Scotland, 'fud' is another term for a vagina. I'm assuming you didn't mean that you want to eat some chargrilled vag, but then I've never been to the Notting Hill Carnival.
An English girl I used to go out with once texted me and asked if I wanted her to 'get some fud ready' for me coming round. Fnar fnar.
I've lived in Glasgow for 4 years without coming across this fud usage. But urban dictionary concurs - http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=fud
Maybe I should get out more.
*Note to self: start hanging around bus stops for longer*
but I just hear reports of over-crowding and lack of toilet facilities.
Plus there's probably lots of bongos and reggae
In related news, apparently Stokefest won't be happening this year.
what is wrong with you
and i loved it way before i 'FOUND MYSELF'
Someone's got ants in the pants :P
you would have seen 'ants in my pants' if i had of been on yesterday. foul form.
When the police were trying to stop people entering the park because it was too full already? I had to climb a fence. A small fence, but still. Seems like it got too popular for its own good.
to the OP - It's alright. I went last year, drank on the streets, listened to not all that loud really soundsystems, ate a really bad goat curry (I would manage to pick the bad stall). Apparently after we left (well, got really lost and got a bus to some tube station after a nice little girl gave us directions) there was apparently a bit of argy bargy with the police. So if you're really scared of being a bit near that sort of thing, or are an alcoholic evening standard seller, best make sure you leave early. Also, loads of not being able to go anywhere very fast in crowds, police shutting stations and stuff is inevitable. And may or may not be worth it depending on how much you like crowds, street drinking, Caribbean food and soundsystems.
and now that i think about it my flight is tonight.. :( So many people i know heading over so if you meet any really loud Belfast people they are my mates.
ive booked Southport Weekender though! :D Paid and all. :D
and I forgot to buy Time Out. Fuck's sake.
Yes. You will be using your free time for reflection and self improvement instead of getting drunk while watching four indie bands who all look and sound like another popular indie band did 18 years ago.
You will arrive at work on Monday refreshed and filled with a sense of righteous purpose, eager and willing to take whatever the coming week wants to throw at you.
More fool you.
I'm going to be in Belfast with a hangover.
Is the carnival on both the Sunday and the Monday, or just mainly on the Sunday?
