and sell it for about 3 quid. would i get sued?
and i'd just sell it via a myspace/bigcartel...
i just dont wanna get sued for millions or something for what is a bit of fun.
i just wanted to make sure.
my band have an EP out on tape soon, but it's just made me want to do some more releases myself, i thought this might be a fun place to start. i'll have a bit more of a think about it.
the idea would basically be each band records a cover version and i put it on a 'rip it up and start again' themed tape.
anyway i was gonna do it with my friend who runs his own DIY label, he was gonna do the CDs i'm doing the tapes. besides we've down download codes, so any advantage of a CD is pretty much negated by that. and tapes look better.
"could i get sued?"
is a function of potential for harm multiplied by probability of that harm happening.
Potential for harm (to you, i.e. you getting pulled up for it) is likely to increase if you're selling it and making it look like a pro effort that a record company would want to put a stop to.
Probability of that harm happening goes goes up if you start banging on about it to all and sundry and put loads of contact details on it that could lead folk back to you.
To put it in perspective, consider how many of those folk at dodgy markets, selling suitcases full of knock-off CDs/DVDs you reckon get pulled up for running what is an out-and-out counterfeit operation?
Basically you've gotta plan to fall under the radar and tbh, in reality, these days, I can't see anyone putting resources into chasing up some dude doing cassettes or a few basic CD-Rs.
