Lost Season 5 (nestor-centric)
Just finished watching season 5. Some opinions and questions, mainly questions: AND SPOILERS
Why kill Daniel off? By far the most interesting character of series 5, with loads of stuff about his mum unexplained. He was also the one giving viewers a few answers, and a good actor. Get rid of Sun instead, she is starting to annoy me.
The scene with Jacob and the guy (who turns into fake Locke) telling him he's going to kill him one day - that could be in the future.
who the fuck is Richard? And what the hell is Christian doing there?
Dead Locke really creeps me out. it's horrible.
I've completely lost track of who are the goodies and who are the baddies.
Black Rock is still not explained is it? I bet it never is.
yeah, definitely shouldn't have scrolled my mousey over this one
seeya!
only one season left :(
the scene with jacob / jacob's enemy
is in the past, because the ship coming in is the black rock.
I think it's the future
bump
you're wrong
bump
Correct.
And Richard is acually called 'Ricardo'. Presumably from the Spanish ship 'The Black Rock'. When they saw it on the horizon that was the entrance of Richard/Ricardo, and the start of a new era on the island
The Black Rock was a British ship.
was it?
sheeeeeit. this throws all my theories off. well the one about ricrado anyway
His name's Ricardus Alpertus.
He's obviously a Roman from 2000 years ago!
HIYA
Why kill Daniel off? being one of my favourite characters, was a bit annoying when they killed him off, but it felt right in the context of the story. the main theme of this season was time travel / physics, so daniel was sorta made the embodiment of that. PLUS, im almost certain you'll see him next season - it very much looks like juliet DID set off the bomb & everything's been reset, so all the passengers, and thus daniel, charlotte, miles, etc never would've been to the island, i.e. they're alive again next series.
i dont think it will be done quite so black-and-white as "everything's started again. over 100 episodes of obsessive fanboy show didnt technically happen in the narrative" but i'm pretty sure it'll feature in some way and old characters will be back - almost like an encore season next year.
there was a lot of clues suggesting this at comic con, and the first episode of season 6 is entitled "LA X" - which is the destination of flight 815
the jacob / fake locke scene being the future? hows that?
who the fuck is Richard? no idea. guess we will now. its sorta hinted that he was on the black rock and was jacob's first follower guy. i guess. idk. i imagine he'll be pretty important in series 6 though, he's been built up to be one of the most significant players in the "bigger picture"
And what the hell is Christian doing there? hunoes. im guessing that most of his scenes, he's the same guy thats evil locke.
Black Rock is still not explained is it? It was hinted that Jacob brought it to the island in the s5 finale, and you can see it on the distance, etc. I'm almost certain they will explain this. believe me.
it was more than hinted at really.
in that scene they mention how it seems to be a constant cycle of bringing people to the island to test them in some way. I dont think theres much to explain really apart from when we find out what the whole point of flight 815 crashing and Jacob/the other guys battle is over then we can assume the black rock folk went through the same thing.
i get the feeling
that those in the past are going to have their timeline reset, but not those in 2008.
if this is the case, it's going to take a lot of skill to pull it off.
I think that would be totally inconsistent with the rest of what's happened
For example, Sun being shown the photo of Hurley and co. in 197whatever.
so would resetting the timeline completely
not least because they spent half of last season showing a 2008 that doesn't exist.
i'm slightly concerned that they've written themselves into a corner here with no 'consistent' way out.
plus
the very idea of changing the timeline is pretty inconsistent with how the show has presented time travel over the last two seasons as well.
There's a difference though
because that was only ever presented through other characters' theories.
I think you've kind of got to imagine
the stuff that Hurley and co. are doing as happening at the same time as the stuff that Sun and co. are doing. They've shown, though (with the photo), that Hurley and co.'s actions nonetheless have a direct effect on Sun and co.'s timeline, and that is what they cannot renege on.
I don't really see an issue; I think we can take it for granted that season 6 will begin with everyone back on Flight 815 in 2004, with no other concurrent storyline. Where they writers will take it from there, though, is anyone's guess. I wouldn't be surprised if the plane still ends up crashing on the island but for a reason other than a magnetic field dragging it down there, just like Charlie ended up dying in spite of the fact that Desmond repeatedly stopped him from dying in the specific ways he foresaw. Like Eloise Hawking said in 'Flashes Before Your Eyes', time will always find a way to correct itself.
i suppose
that it has to. otherwise: hello, mr time paradox.
you know, i can't think of any other TV show where i'd be willing to give the writers this much benefit of the doubt. needless to say, if they don't live up to my high expectations, i will online and be registering my disgust around the world within minutes.
Bobby Ewing's in the shower!!!
it really is all in Hurley's head
and he's still in the mental hospital.
The finalé will feature Sam Tyler and Gene Hunt in a massive shootout.
