the "hoping against hope that the insurance policy pays out" thread

colon_closed_bracket [Edit] [Delete] 4 replies 13:24, 14 August '09

so we've had plumbers round who were going to replace the floorboards - we thought that the damp floorboards in our downstairs bathroom were a result of general damp / old house etc etc.

having taken up the floorboards they've discovered a crack in the toilet waste pipe that meant that raw sewage has been seeping into the foundations.

it's going to be about £5,000 if the insurance don't pay out. Plus mrs ccb and little isobel and i need to find somewhere to live for a few weeks.

please insurance, pay out, please insurance, pay out... etc etc.

i don't know why i'm posting it on here, maybe in the vain hope that one of you might work in insurance and have some comforting words for me!

  • Do you have buildings insurance then?

in theory it should pay out as its affected the foundations of the house.

    • yeah we have buildings insurance and contents

so i think we're covered. i think. but insurance companies give me the jitters.

  • Eep.

Have you called them yet? They might want to send their own approved plumbers to fix to save costs. The earlier you contact them the better anyway.

    • yeah contacted them straight away, they were pretty helpful

they're sending out a "sanitiser" from a company called Munters (lol) and then their own claims assessor sometime next week. I just think of all those families that were flooded a couple of years back and how they spent months living in caravans... hope they can sort out the problem reasonably quickly!
