I Love The Young Ones.
Now...''hands up who likes me?''
made by YOUNG ADULTS! and concentrating on all the subjects that YOUNG ADULTS! are interested in, like unemployment!"
I remember sneakily trying to watch it when I was supposed to be asleep aged about 12. Jerzey Balowski scared me as a child.
But then I saw it again at University and couldn't believe how bad most of it was.
i got the videos when i was about 9....the cartoon blitz saw it through as a nipper and then the gags got me by as i grew up....it's a show for all ages...
I have a feeling that was way better than the first.
Darling Fascist bully boy...
And Bottom. And pretty much everything Mayall and Edmondson do. I even hate that We Are Klang shite purely because the bloke in it looks like Mayall.
Do you like Blackadder, Fawlty Towers and Red Dwarf?
Red Dwarf has aged worse than any comedy ever, bar series 5 and 6, and the 7 + 8 were crap. That thing on Dave recently was the worst programme ever made.
Blackadder was always bobbins.
Until the last line, which I will temper slightly to read 'I didn't ever much rate Blackadder to be honest, but the series when they were in the trenches and stuff was dead good'.
the last ever episode was good. That's the only one that is good.
Blackadder is great
"Sex is not a topic for the dinner table"
"Or indeed, any table"
"Well, maybe a table in a brothel"
Blackadder - errrrghhh. Not even that watchable, in a lulling mindless way.
The 90s is where it was at comedy-wise: Keeping Up Appearances, the Brittas Empire. I'm pretty sure I've posted several hundred times about The Brittas Empire.
is the most underrated British Comedy of all time. There, I said it.
and has a top notch theme tune, but it's just not KUA.
i think the awfulness would suoffocate me now though
It really is awful
Gordon Brittas: It is seven years to the day since the first member of the public walked through those doors.
Gavin Featherly: And you threw him out, Mr. Brittas!
Gordon Brittas: He was wearing unauthorised water wings, Gavin.
Blackadder's just amazing. You're a wrong'un.
certainly better than 7
However it peaked so much with 6 that there really was no point making them any more
"Gas" is still the finest piece of comedy ever made in this country
"Have gone to engage in my favourite pasttime of bus surfing"
"Three cups of... steaming cold tea. Better drink it before it gets warm"
although the best ever episode of bottom is hole, the one where they're stuck on the ferris wheel.
s'like beckett or summit.
Wasn't shown for a year if I remember correctly
vindicated am i
''We make love......not together......on our own''
Rat: Nah mate I'm a glaswegian!
different age eh guys?.....different age
I'm not sure what kind of teenager that made me
Hey who loved Terry & June?
''Rik Mayall has pointed out the fact that the characters in The Young Ones form the basis of a classic nuclear family:
Mike = father
Neil = mother
Rick = daughter
Vyvyan = son''
when I watched them as a kid I lapped up the slapstick, re-watching has made me realise that they were also a gold mine for satire, what a great balance :D
"Can I come in and use your toilet?"
"No! Go away!"
"I thought you'd say that. That's why I took a piss on your lawn."
Also, the university challenge bit against Scumbag College - made up of all the Cambridge footlights - is classic.
is the fact that so much of the action is implicit....they draw these amazing pictures in your mind of their environment and the people they know and the places they go.....the images created are so vivid, but more often than not it's just two men in one place.........and i know that's as much to do with budget constraints and the style of the comedy in the past.....but it's still quite a perfect set-up that you don't really get anymore....
''Revolutionary biscuits of Italy,
Rise up out of your box,
You have nothing to lose but your wafers,
Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum... ''
DR MARTENS BOOTS!
