Girls who like Gays

Fuzzy_Dunlop [Edit] [Delete] 28 replies 18:30, 6 August '09

inspired from MissBass's thread, why do a lot of women like gay men but more importantly why do they seem to ensure that everyone knows that they do?

I can understand their affection for gays (sharing feminine characteristics must be one of the more obvious reasons), however why do some girls feel a need to emphasise to everyone that they have loads of gay buddies? Some I know even compare with each other how many of their friends are gay, and manage to drop statements like "oh, I really like gays, they're my best friends" into seemingly every conversation.

What is the psychology behind this? Is it some kind of sexual protection mechanism at work? Is it possibly to do with me? (I'm straight btw)...any ideas?

  • it's just basic 'being an idiot' rules.

Just like if someone made a point out of having famous friends or friends who were really good at magic tricks. They'd be an idiot. If they were a boy or a girl.

    It's reeeeeeally simple.

  • i have a friend who works a gay night

and she has basically stopped socialising with us, her female friends so that she can dress up as an air hostess cover her face in glitter and now thinks she is a celebrity on the club scene.
but on the upside she does get to wear hotpants in public without being molested by neanderthals. so maybe it is a security thing

  • I thought people only did this when they were 15

  • listening to The Bloodhound Gang's "I Wish I Was Queer So I Could Get Chicks" may explain a lot.

  • 'awwww i love gay guys! you can actually talk about blobbing and boys and shit and its just like you're with a girlfriend?'

  • You're right, I can't believe lots of women ACTUALLY like gay men!

    What are they thinking!

You're right, it must be those feminine characteristics what gays have. They probably help each other with make up, share hair-straightening tips and talk about tampons.

  • because they can give love/friendship

in a male stylee without the clammy spectre of heterosexual complications.

  • Do they really?

I have a couple of gay friends who are lovely, and equally I know a couple of gay men who are poisonous little bitches that I would go to great lengths to avoid having to converse with.

Incidentally, I went out in the gay viallge last night for the first time since I moved to Manchester. It was good fun, but I definitely got really funny looks and am now worried that they thought I was a drag queen :-( Total BITCHES.

  • I feel like this has completely passed me by as

aside from on tv I hardly see girls doing this at all. I wonder though it's just to avoid possible confusion. Like that age old story about how a girl and a guy are friends for ages and then one of them fancies the other one but they don't feel the same way and it ends in double homicide...or something to that effect.

  • It's really simple:

They're just idiots. Who in their right mind chooses friends based on sexuality?

A good question is why do many gay men behave in an effeminate manner? It's an honest question.

    orsonwellesrabbit | 6 Aug '09, 19:44 | X
    • Some people are naturally effeminate.

You can see that in kids growing up and stuff occasionally, before they're even aware of the notion of 'camp'. That's probably a fairly small percentage though.

Partly for our generation there's a lack of non-effeminate role models in popular culture, so gay kids growing up don't really see an alternative and assume there's no alternative.

      maffy @orsonwellesrabbit | 6 Aug '09, 20:26 | X
      • Oh, I'm not knocking our effeminate brothers.

        I was just honestly wondering.

        orsonwellesrabbit @maffy | 6 Aug '09, 20:55 | X
    • How do you know 'so many' of them do unless you automatically know who's gay and who isn't?

      TheoGB @orsonwellesrabbit | 7 Aug '09, 10:18 | X
  • I know a girl who has to always emphasise the gayness of her friends

If one of her friends is gay, he can't just be 'Colin', he would have to be 'Gay Colin, my gay friend, he's just fabulous'. She's a proper try-hard cunt though, so it's not really surprising.

    tomatron | 6 Aug '09, 19:55 | X
    • Most men I come across are gay men. But then I am normally around tour guides or (out of work)actors

and the majority of them tend to be gay. Big generalisation, but most of the time a true one.

I just prefer the company of men in general, and at least with the men I do have in my life I know they don't want to fuck me. They actually like me. I think. I hope. I suppose it would be nice to have a female friend.

      • Be fair

It's not just girls who do this.

Who wants to hear all about the hijinx me and my numerous homosexual pals get up to?

        • I do

          please go on

i love most people. Just so happens that i have a large circle of gay mates as well as straight ones.

        • i am picturing this too literally

all your gay mates doing the hokey cokey
