but my girlfriend doesn't like it! I need to get rid of her for 153 hours.
my girlfriend doesn't like it either, but I'm the boss. ;-)
but i've only had the opportunity to see the first two episodes
need to get the house to myself for a weekend and dig in
pretty impressed. America does serial drama so much better than we do.
Yes it is.
Josh and Toby ftw
My favourite Toby moment is in Series 2 when he has to give a talk to the anti-Globalisation protestors and just sits there reading the paper waiting for them to shut up. Well, my favourite Toby moment which you'll have seen if you're only on Series 3, anyway.
Toby: You're concerned about American labor and manufacturing.
Toby: What kind of car do you drive?
Toby: Then shut up.
I'm on season three as well
While I was mainlining the whole thing last year I started to argue like him, all soft and quiet at first, slowly rising in volume, then almost SHOUTING the odd WORD seeminly at RANDOM, before COMPLETELY EXPLODING WITH RAGE.
You should try it, it's fun.
talking like Sam, I'm pretty sure.
by the writers in the later seasons, but yeah. It's such a great show anyhow, provided me with hundreds of hours of entertainment, education, tears and laughter in 2008.
it's all i did during winter
amazing telly...i miss being up at 2 in the morning having the gang rush around in their early morning universe..
except in Autumn. Those drunken West Wing marathons are probably my favourite TV memories. I laughed, I cried, I drank my own bodyweight in Leffe blonde. Good times.
purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr oh god and the republican blonde.
i think i'd totally get as stuck into one as they do. oh, the camaraderie...
reaching the end of season six, its a bit of a marathon but so watchable!
last winter. this thread is seriously just making me want to go out and buy it today and start watching.
LESS THAN 50p AN HOUR!
where can i get it in oxford that cheaply now! i'm going to have to go into town aren't i, and town is all horrible, and its raining, agh.
I'm guessing if they've got any instore there then they'll be the same price - it's been reduced to that generally since Christmas at most places. Not sure that many stores have stock though.
My boyfriend thinks it's schmaltz. It is, but it wouldn't be as good if they didn't say stuff like "LETS WORK FOR THE LEADER OF THE FREE WORLD!"
I watched it on tv, now have the complete box set and have even got them all on the ipod. I even like the ones with Jimmy Smits.
i like the idea of watching an episode every day during lunch :D
It all adds up to about 40gb. But I dl'ed the first two series from itunes and they are twice the size of the conversions I did at home. so it should something near 27gb
If I put the West Wing on my iPod I'm probably done with interacting with other people entirely.
its no sopranos.
1. Jed Bartlet
2. Annabeth Schott
3. Donna Moss
4. Charlie Young
5. Percy Fitzwallace
Careful of spoilers people!
If you watch too much of it you start to become it though. You find your speech gets faster and you start walking quickly through corridors with a vague sense of purpose.
After watching it I see all meetings like a political battle...although I'm not sure if walking into a meeting about data protection and saying "In this meeting, when the web officer stands, no-one sits"...quite worked out the way I thought it would.
In the very last episode at the inauguration...the camera picks up various people from the previous 7 series. It lingers on this one bloke who I'd never seen before. Having watched the bonus dvd...I am led to believe it is indeed Aaron Sorkin. I'm not sure I like the idea to be honest.
But I've only seen series 1 and 2 so I'm not reading this thread in case I see any spoilers. I *think* I might have just skimmed across on just above this but I'm going to pretend I didn't see it and forget about it. I've only recently discovered it and it's great! One of the most well-scripted things I've seen for ages.
I have never seen any of it and i have never seen any of the following:
Man I have a lot of tv ahead of me.
It's pretty smug and generally bad.
I've never even heard of it.
Josh and Chandler Bing as TV execs steering a cast of writers including a minor UK celebrity and stars, including that dead girl off American Gothic without her acne (playing the actress who played Anabeth) all doing a show that's meant to resemble the Daily Show or something.
I saw it pretty much as Sorkin trying to create a Josh Lyman vehicle...a West Wing 2 meets sports desk, but set in TV land. unsurprisingly quite dull and as you say...smug.
we lost Warner Brothers on demand for a few months and it's not on there now.
I think the issue with it is that those sorts of shows are kind of shit. So you end up watching mediocre TV being made on a TV show that tries to imply it's about a great TV show. Or something.
I love the way Sorkin shamelessly uses exactly the same plot devices (and a surprising amount of the time, the same plots) from the West Wing to much less effect. And he tries to shoehorn in as many national emergency situations in as possible despite it being about a freakin' comedy show.
And when I say I love it, I mean I don't care for it at all.
And yet I watched the whole thing and felt really sad when it ended. As shmaltzy and gimmicky as Sorkin's writing is I can't get enough of it. I've very nearly shelled out for a region free DVD player just to buy Sports Night and I'm excited about the Facebook movie because of his involvement despite it being the worst concept for a movie ever. Well, it was until someone decided Asteroids: the Movie was workable anyway.
I was honestly going to write that 1st para myself, but didn't think anyone would be interested. Mind you I thought it was dead lazy to try and cram in 7 seasons of character development into 23 episodes. prolly why it didn't work out...and 30-rock had Alec Baldwin. There was also a bit too much tv-writer anxiety stuff..so made it too much of a vanity exercise. Amanda Peet? worst casting ever!
