really this bad?
fascinating stuff. like the fact that 20% of the population is actually emiritii (or whatever) and most of the population are essentially slave labour, with all the skilled labour being western contractors
just wish they went into more detail about the chinese quarter rioting, and the bit about the chinese embassy getting involved. oh, and the 900 odd indian workers who've died there this year (i think? dont fancy reading it again)
and the attitude of loathing towards the locals doesn't surprise me as a lot of people my dad worked with had had jobs in Arab countries and the mutual enmity seems to be a common thing.
I would like to know more about those incidents as well as you said.
cv in hand the moment they get their degrees...
I went a couple of times. Once visiting and once in an interview.
Pretty much accurate description in the article but I think I want to go there again for some inspiration for a Gibsonesq dystopion novel about he extremes of capitalism or some shit.
I wasn't allowed in some of the bars as they had 'European only' policies...enforced by Black bouncers.
so I probably shouldn't try and go there?
really..NOTHING...the Europeans make their own entertainment...imagine Essex swinger parties, stones cover bands, only fools and horses being played in bars 24/7.
So I would see no reason to go unless you havea friend there or want to work for a bit.
A few people I know who had no experience in writing wanted to work in magazine so they went to Dubai for 6 months and got jobs as journalists adn came back ot the UK and got jobs in newspapers and one guy works for a console mag...So I would have gone for that
that dubai's one of those "hell on earth" kinda places
