It was at 1pm yesterday. I'm aware that no news is probably bad news here, but I'm all tense and I want to know.
If you're there already then you can go for it today, if not then you need to wait a couple of days - they may have plenty more to interview and you don't want to antagonise them. I don't think that it always just makes you look keen.
i'd given up hope by that point, but i then found out i had the job! win.
That should keep me from chewing my lips off for a few more hours anyway. Annoying that they told me I was the last interviewee; it's at a different uni so I should probably keep my distance. HHHHNG
as they may have other interviews.
If you're really dying to know say you have had another offer from elsewhere but would prefer this job.
to keep me waiting two weeks. Not to mention silly; if they want me to start asap I need to reschedule my current work. And I don't think any academic job has ever kept me waiting more than two days for a decision.
(a) it'll keep your mind off it whilst you wait, and (b) irons in the fire, etc.
I can't think of anything more annoying. If I were the person in charge of handing out jobs, I would tell ANY person who called up to check their status "Sorry, we're still considering" while removing their name from the consideration list.
If you've got the job, I'm sure they'll let you know. In the meantime, be about your business.
it's an amazing mental block for getting through my current list of things that needs doing. As a watched pot never boils, a member of the HR team in the focus of an intense beam of remote mental concentration never calls.
I sometimes forget that not everyone has my incredible ability to completely disregard the existence of anything that isn't in my immediate field of vision.
I'm like a two-dimensional man in a 3D world.
Comfort yourself with the knowledge that as a HR worker they're probably just very busy trying to stick a fork into a plug socket somewhere*.
I've been looking for an excuse to post that for a while.
Also: idea. If you get an interview, try to sneak a look at the interviewee list. Then set up a load of fake email accounts from them, start doing funny-voiced phone calls etc, all hassling the HR team to find out if they got it, and hope that whoever's fielding calls/emails takes the Stealthy approach to recruitment.
Which uni is this at?
I'm scared. I have to have a complete first draft of the PhD in by Thursday afternoon. I still have about a third to go. This will clearly lead to well-researched points and excellent writing.
a job I went for at UCL once didn't actually bother to inform me I hadn't got it. The one I got at KCL just sent me an email which went in my junk email and they didn't bother to chase it up with a phonecall and nearly offered it to someone else.
as I said to Stealthy, I don't recommend it while there are other important things to do, man. It's a massive distraction. Good work on getting that far through though; 2/3 is pretty good!
