Owning 'Day of the week' socks
they're black, 'cept for the heel which is the same colour as the text for the day of the week that runs along the side of the foot, totally out of view 'cept for when you take your shoes off.
Now, the first reason that they were a bad idea is that I'm never going to wear them at the weekend, so seven pairs of socks are immediately reduced to five. It's like buying a loaf of bread and being sure to throw away the first four slices. If the loaf was washable, and you wore it on your feet. Anyway, Saturday might get a wedding airing at some point in the year, can't see any reason why Sunday would see the light of day.
Secondly, there is no way on earth I could wear the wrong pair of socks on the wrong day. My boss last Friday had a Tuesday pair of socks on, it was all I could do not to throttle him. Now, I own other socks as well as this set, and so it's not like I wear the Monday socks every Monday, Tuesday socks every Tuesday, so on and so forth. Assuming there are 52 weeks in a year and therefore 52 of each weekday, that is 52 chances to wear each pair. By wearing other pairs I don't take each of those 52 chances, and I would infact estimate that I probably only utilise at best something like 60% of the opportunities to wear these socks that are available to me. Something like 30 days a year, at a guess.
So I have seven pairs of socks that I reckon at best I wear 150 times a year, less than half the days that there are in 12 months. Not only badly inefficient but a false economy as there are 200-odd other days to consider, sock-wise. Something like a 40% chance that at any one time I could be wearing a pair of these socks, though of course should it be a Saturday or a Sunday then that is obviously 0%.
Today, you might be wondering?
Nope. Monday socks are at home, jostling for position in the hope that in another 7 days they might get an airing. I guess the chances are increased by the fact I'm not wearing them this week, but that doesn't make them a shoe-in. Ho ho.
You can use the rest of this thread for what you like, I'm done now. Unless you want to discuss socks and your sock-wearing ratio, of course
