Poll: Should we add a "Sports" board?
Seems like a lot of people want to discuss Tennis, Football, Rugby, etc and wondering if an environment for it would make it easier to follow and perhaps encourage more discussion?

I like sports
NEEDS MORE TAXONOMY!
i'd say....
no
Yes
It's such a clear-cut definable thing and there's quite a few of them and people are pretty polarized as to the subject that I think that'd be a good thing, or couldn't hurt.
...
What, for the three or four sports-related threads that are started each day?
IT'S AN ASHES SUMMER
no, absolutely not
the only people who complain about it are Moaning Mertles who should be ignored at every opportunity. Actually, if we could get a "Moaning Mertle" board that would be just dandy
i'd like a moaning mertle board.
but they probably won't give us one. everything's rubbish.
I say no
it's a pain having to switch between boards particularly for us tiny window browsers(I may be the only one).
No.
yes
do a trial one
and see how many threads are started
^
No
If you don't want to read them, just don't open the threads.
Nope
Yes.
Give it a shot.
No
because I would get confused where to post my "DiS Football" threads.
Unless I can get my own Social Sports board, obviously.
No, then the Social board will only be left with the emoy whiney threads!
There should be a seperate emo-whine board actually
It would be like the "festivals", "announcements" and "your music" boards
ie everyone just posts that stuff on either of the 2 main boards anyway.
I'd prefer not
Because it would be one more board to be flicking between. As it is, i no longer check the announcements, your music, etc. boards, which seems a shame.
I think the fewer the boards the better.
There's no reason for Sports not to be on the social board.
ok
it's quite a mixed reaction, perhaps i'll wait to see how our tagging goes and see if we can get a set of things people can tag social board threads with going and then people can view things by subjects.
main reason for suggesting it is that the daily threads often double up on busier days when people miss the thread started previously, etc
Eh?
12 no's and three yes's (when you posted the above comment), 17 no's and three yes's now. You'll get the odd chick voting yes, looking for a bit of an argument, but y'know, a little common sense, eh?
No
I'd say no.
Because, on a dedicated sports board, instead of 3 generic "football/tennis/rugby thread"s, you'll have hundreds and hundreds of zero and one repliers. It'll be far more discordant and harder to follow.
The way these boards work (and the big advantage of them) with the indented replying system means it's easy to have 4 or 5 concurrent conversations within one thread.
Wait
are you saying that the reply system works?
nah
no
DiS really shouldn't have more forums than it absolutely needs to. It'll just end up segregating the 'community' into people that like sports and people that don't.
or 'girls' and 'boys' as I call them ;-)
Absolutely not.
Is this because a few huge bores have a problem with there being more than one sports thread a day? In that case should we not have an Emo Board, a Films Board, a Moral Outrage Board, a Lunch Board, a LOLCat Board, a Wire Board & a What To Do In London Board?
Don't be so silly. It's a social board on a music website. If people were constantly talking about sport on the music forum then sure, but give over. Anyone for this can be taken as an idiot.
lol
I love it when people get really emotive about 'board issues'.
it reminds me of the senate on the star wars films or something.
an emo board would be good
Social seems like a pretty cool catch all board as is, warts and sports and all.
If you put up a sports board then you may as well put religion and politics boards as well.
I mean Social is near perfection
where else can a guy go to exchange primavera recipes, talk football, discuss odd tingling sensations, mash over world events and invite hundreds of veritable strangers to go "ass to mouth" with him?
I mean really, where else?
The Scottish Parliament
france
all right, maybe
but Scottish Parliament and France leave me right the fuck out. So I am left with only DiS social.
Hey wait, Scotland has their own governing bodies- separate from England? How come Prince Charles lives mainly in Scotland? Is he slumming? Man, so what is really left of England?
I mean really, what?
haha
tomorrow we celebrate our independence (not home rule) fucking independence- from England.
: (
I am one eighth Welshonian, could I possibly repatriate? Wait, is Whales part of England? Oh, well, am %50 Erse though so that would probably woefully mitigate my claim as an expatriate British subject- nevermind.
How about Ireland- will they take me? A long lost son of Donnegal & County Cork. Actually, I am not worried- I am also one quarter Swedish and one eighth Danish so I do have options.
no
no
no, but why do some things get stickied?
I presume because a moderator particularly likes football and rugby. It's stupid. Why not sticky a "book recommendations" thread or something like that that gets asked all the time?
The tennis threads have had way more posts than either the confederations cup or the rugby one, but don't get stickied. I don't think any of them should, personally. It's totally unnecessary because it's not that hard to look through the first page for another football, tennis or rugby thread and just post in that.
I wouldn't worry about it.
I could foresee this response
Surprisingly, I really don't care very much. However, seeing as we're all here to waste time when we should be doing something more constructive, I think it's fair enough to offer my opinion on this unimportant subject.
-
For what it's worth, the reason they sticky the football thread is to stop there being thread after thread of football-related nonsense. Most of us would simply look down the board, or use CTRL+F, but some don't seem to be able to do either of those things and a couple of the bores took exception. Those moaning about the stickies, though (not you, others) seem to be some of the same people who moan that there are too many football threads. I couldn't much of a monkey's either way, it doesn't bother me, but people (again not you, but others) getting annoyed about it are probably being a little silly.
well I agree in that I don't "care" either way
I also can't understand why people weren't able to look down the board for the "football thread", bit mongy. Having said that, I wouldn't care if there were 20 different football threads a day, because that would just be what people obviously wanted to talk about. There's a woman in the crowd with a "Go Murray" badge on each breast.

*I hope this is what I think it is... It's not, but it'll do*
NO,
it's silly to compartmentalise things, much as i can see why it'd be tempting. Now I'm going to click on the drowning man just down there. "Oh Hai" to you, fine sir, Oh Hai.
^this should be elsewhere...
no
discussing sports is a social activity
'Sports' by Huey Lewis and the News
well, it's a good album. It does have 'i want a new drug' which was at the centre of a law suit against Ray Parker Jr who was accused of plagiarizing the song for his 1984 hit 'Ghostbusters. The case was eventually settled out of court for an undisclosed sum. Intersting stuff, but maybe not worthy of a whole board.
I much prefer 'Fore!' as it contains the hits 'Hip to be Square' and 'Stuck with you'.
real answer without me being silly
no.
I think every person should have their own board.
But no Sports Board, no.
:D
No
the seperation of music and everything else, it's nice and simple switching between the two.
it's better to have a couple of active boards than a load who all barely crawl along because of over specialisation. it becomes too cluttered and too much of a chore navigating between multiple boards, especially if there's some lively discussions going on.
No
thanks
No
1) Slippery slope to every possible topic area having its own board.
2) I don't think the board gets clogged up with sports threads, there's not that much non-football chat on here and everything else goes into the one football thread a day.
3) The social board is a great mix of stuff... Monpot talking about cooking, KiK photoing his lunch, Creaky's apocalyptic predictions, et cetera.
4) If you're not interested in it, don't read it, don't moan about it.
No's winning by miles.
.
YES.
Yes
Get it the fuck away from everything else.
No.
I'm amazed anyone thinks it needs it - social's not exactly flooded with sport as it is, and of late those of us with an interest have largely kept the number of threads well under control.
It's notable that other than ehwhat, not a single person in here's come up with a reason (that I agree with or otherwise) for splitting it.
yeah, we can talk about sports bras
...
http://www.shockabsorber.co.uk/bounceometer/shock.html
by the same logic, wed have to have a 'sex' board
Nah a bit pointless, splits the members up too plus the way it is shows that music lovers
also enjoy sport, cooking, moaning. A dedicated board to sport wouldn't that just move Dis toward being a general message board site, the way it is with one non music related board is great and set this place apart in my opinion.
No change thanks Sean.
Another 'no' vote here.
I also don't think we need a Festivals board either. Cheers.
NO
nah man
this is a music website
and to be fair an agony aunt board would be more used than a football board lol
Can I say 'no' again?
Cheers.
Sean mate, just in case you didn't clock
that's a no
