maybe we're safe just yet
"a Megazord of planet crushing assbeat."
:')
we were supposed to die so many times in primary school
yeah i notice
that doomsday seem to day put forward after 99 it was 2006
sorry back
Might as well kill myself before then, just to be on the safe side.
I thought the whole "OMGZ 2012 is teh end of the world!" thing
was somehow linked to the Mayans and some different calendar?
the night before the solar eclipse back in 1999 (i think)
i was on holiday in cornwall in a caravan.
i stared up at the night sky convinced the world was going to end.
Nostradamus ruined my life, i read everything i could get my hands on about him
The day the world was supposed to end, in 1999
I ran away. I hopped on my bike and cycled away up a hill, then I ditched my bike behind some bushes and walked along the field, looking down upon the sad, confused, ignorant world below me. As my watch ticked nearer to two o'clock, I became more and more sure that the world would end.
But it didn't.
I reclaimed my bicycle and went home. When I got in, I said to my dad "The world was supposed to end, but it didn't."
"Is that so?" said my dad. "I'd forgotten all about that."
you should publish your memoirs
Maybe I will.
How many copies can I put you down for?
On the same day
everyone at school had the insane belief that if they were touching the ground at two o'clock, they'd die.
Hilarity ensued.
how 'special' was the school in question?
Was this the documenary you saw?

i like the idea of St. Peter's Basilica
rolling around rather than collapsing
i guess that's what gives this film an edge over every other apocalypse film
Lots of people (namely Terrance McKenna) have written about 'Time Wave Zero' or 'Novelty Theory'
Which is essentially based upon the Mayan Calendar, and judges 'novelty' or change across the universe. I don't really understand how it's recorded or how they'd use it to predict change in the ebb and flow of reality, but the level of Novelty reaches a masive peak at December 21, 2012.
While some might suggest that this massive peak of activity (seen last in situations like Hiroshima), might cause people to see it as a potential doomsday scenario, others see it differently, and think it might be, instead, some kind of massive shift or advance in our natural or technological evolution, and might give birth to something like time travel, mass-space travel, psychokinesis, teleportation, or a huge socio-political/consciousness shift ...etc...
I personally think it's all bollocks, but pretty fun to read into if you're into that kind of thing.

According to the upcoming Roland Emmerich film, the world is indeed going FUBAR in 2012. And only John Cusack and some cute kid can save us. Or save themselves and leave the rest of us to drown in molten lava or some shit.
mayans?
pffft.
the x-files said the alien invasion will happen in 2012. that's all the proof i need!
knows
I was watching an episode of X files on Virgin last night:
there was a character called 'Mrs Fuggazi'!!!
!!!!!
I know!
!!!
Did Mulder interview her in a waiting room?
Nope. But she was sitting on some furniture.
Nostradamus
was basically a 16th Century Sci Fi writer.
If this is the case
Then WHY are we spending MILLIONS on the Olympics?
Some people have no foresight...
as opposed to spending it on what?
The world's going to end, who cares what we spend it on?
Here's what I don't get about this whole 2012 thing.
Why is it that lots of intelligent people, who refuse to give any credence whatsoever to every other horsehit theory that turns up, appear to have so much time for this one?
I was literally astonished the other day when a couple of my flatmates (both very smart) admitted to at least being impressed by this theory, if not persuaded by it.
After that I felt I should at least read a bit more about it. Obviously nobody in the scientific world thinks the world will end in 2012. But the interesting thing is, even the premises of the 2012 theory are shaky. Apparently anthropologists believe there is no evidence to suggest that the Mayans thought the world would end at the end of their calendar, or that they were aware of the alleged astronomical significance of certain dates. And as for the supposed astronomical alignment that will happen: this alignment actually goes on for something like 40 years and the "best" point has already passed. So in short, not only is this theory as crazy as every other apocalyptic theory out there, but its supposedly uniquely appealing premises are non-existent.
So yeah, why exactly has this one caught the imagination so much?
Something about humans that makes us need to believe in
the very real prospect of an end to it all?
We always have done: from the sky falling on our head (thanks Asterix) to judgement day (thanks God), nuclear armageddon and now THIS.
Maybe because it provides our lives with some meaning, if we believe in a definitive end date?
In summary: dunno.
i already made a thread about this
