  • My mum did this when my brother and I were young

She ended up liking it so much she completed a degree around it, got a PGCE and became a proper teacher. I also know people my age who've enjoyed it. If you're not sure, you should probably just ask a school if you can help out as work experience for a week or two, they're unlikely to say no.

You might have to pay for your own CRB check though.

  • is it in a specific school?

it is meant to be quite a nice job depending on the school.

  • A friend of mine is an English teaching assistant

and he thoroughly enjoys it. Of course it depends on the school.

  • My girlfriend's sister does this, loves it but gets paid less than a pitance.

If you enjoy being asked retarded questions about your personal life, then yeah, go nuts.

  • sorry for the vagueness:

my battery was dieing so posted it quick.

it'd be at the school / sixth form i'm about to finish, and apparently they favour former students, so if i apply i'd be faaaiiiirly certain to get the job. think it'd be working with kids 11 - 14/15

    pros:
-pretty much my school routine but with no exams or essays or pressure. on the other hand i would HAVE to attend all the time.
    -not far away
-have a few friends i know who will be working
-i think the pay is preeeetty good. 8 grand over the year.
-HOLIDAYS, half terms and stuff. could do all the travelling i wanna do then
    cons:
    - the thought of LEAVING 4LYF tomorrow after my final exam, only to have another year at the same place
    - KIDS
    - KIDS
    - i dont know the compulsory academic school has improved or whatever since i was there, but it was fairly rough, probably still is.

    • 8k pa is not a good wage!

      monpot @Nestor | 18 Jun '09, 17:08 | X
      • Yeah, the one I know gets more than that.

        Balonz @monpot | 18 Jun '09, 17:09 | X
      • I was going to say...

        thats part time, right???
If you just want some passable gap year employment to get money, it'll be better than being on a till in a supermarket or whatever.

        • ...

Yes, it's more like being a dominatrix at a monkey house.

          Stealthy @ring_tailed_lemur | 18 Jun '09, 17:12 | X
          • bad experience

you'd like to tell us about?

            ring_tailed_lemur @Stealthy | 18 Jun '09, 17:13 | X
      • considering i'd only be working

9 months outta the year & would still be living at home without rent, bills, etc... i thought it is. i'm probably being really really stupid and naive or something though. i dunno

        Nestor @monpot | 18 Jun '09, 17:11 | X
  • oh nestor

you'd make the best teaching assistant ever <3
