He always claimed he made it up cos it sounded good but it was actually from some much older artists' work involving several made up phrases, Miller also also had a song which preceded this which starts the story of Maurice and helps explain the use of the name in this song.

They were massive at the time and the theme tune to the show was them singing Young Ones by Cliff, so then they just took it one step further.
The show was based on the student house that Rik Mayall & Ade Edmundson shared in Didsbury.
