what do you like best at buffets and what do you hate most?
I mean salt-of-the-earth kissinginkansas buffets. Not hog-roasts-with-caviar vikram ones.
I think it might be tasty.
Worst: cheese and pineapple. Pineapple can get to fuck.
Add GOOD crisps and tzatziki BAD taramusallatatatata
I FUCKING HATE PINEAPPLE
but I love it when there's a kind of 4 corners theme, like samosas, mini pizzas, spring roles and chicken wings. My friend had french fries at hers recently, cos she loves them so much, I do to but they went cold
I don't which comedian said it but buffets are like chase scenes in cartoons where the same 4 things keep on getting repeated and repeated
pork pies ofcourse
sandwiches cut into small triangles. I don't care what filling it is.
You poncy mother hubbard. I love pate, but there is no place at a buffet for it. See also: soup.
albeit, super kings.
where they had bbq ribs, that was pretty good.
But samosas, mini pizzas, grapes, potato wedges and dips.
And cheese straws.
best: scotch eggs and pork pies. potato salad is always good
though if it's remotely fancy i'm actually obsessed with stuffed vine leaves at the moment.
least favourite: tiny cornish pasties. i like cornish pasties but the tiny ones are about 90% pastry and just make you feel ill.
There has to be some english mustard about though. Preferably without non-mustard matter in there.
Work conference buffet = the shittest things ever. Miniscule triangular sarnies with grim fillings, some fuck-awful quiche and crap crisps which get snapped up almost instantly. Leave you hungrier and (incredibly) more angry than when you first attempted to tuck in.
Home / friends buffet = potentially amazing. Anything, asically. Samosas, pizza, and lots of fresh french bread are particular favourites.
Also: pakoras > samosas
agreed on the pakoras actually, forgot about them. Potato salad is always a winner too.
trying lots of different things.
scope to have as many courses as you want.
mini sausage potential.
the ability to have crisps as part of your main meal.
more than one type of meat.
hot and cold food combos.
too many things on your plate can make the flavours confused.
possibility of food going cold cos its left out.
unsureness of how much to take (how far does it have to go round?)
poor serving appaaratus (fingers ok here?)
waiting for other people to get out of the way.
overall, i'd say the pro's out-do the cons. i love a good buffet, or as my geordie nan used to say, "i love a good buff-et" pronouncing the "t" obvs.
the inevitable buffet shuffle
They're clearly sunday roast food and not designed for other meals.
a buffet is best when it contains pretty much every single food imaginable
potato salad, garlic bread, a crusty french loaf with butter and a plate of good ham. I don't eat meat but ham can't be ignored.
Sometimes if quiche is left out a long time it goes a bit crappy. Otherwise it is all good.
bad - celery/carrot with dips. No one actually likes eating raw vegetable right?
I once shared a hotel's breakfast buffet with Simon Pegg whilst in Kefalonia. That was nice
I think it took a couple of years off my life expectancy
Bad - sandwiches
For some reason I hate sandwiches unless I've either made them or seen them being made in front of me...
I'm playing a gig tonight in a social club with a buffet. I'm probably more excited about the buffet than the gig. I tend to be a greedy bastard with these things though...
I can't be bothered to make sandwiches! I just want to chuck food on plates for people.
they taste so different on a buffet than in any other situation.
Not sure about what I don't like though.
Is an egg mayo sandwich just a double egg sandwich? Cos isn't mayo mainly egg anyway? And what's the deal with airplane food?
Get some scotch eggs ya cheap bastard
I have confidence in his buffet taste
