Bank advice plz.
So today I went to Nationwide and applied for a current account (I currently only have a cash card with no overdraft facility and it's starting to piss me off). They turned me down, which is annoying considering I've been with them for just over 2 years and a monthly salary going in for the same amount of time. However, about 4 years ago I had a dispute with Abbey regarding overdraft charges which I refused to pay back until someone contacted me who wasn't a useless fuckwit. This didn't happen, and eventually I got a letter from a debt collection company demanding that I pay back the money in full. As soon as I got the letter I arranged for the money to be paid back ASAP, and that was that. However, I don't see this being a problem now seeing as it was so long ago and for-comparitively- a nominal amount of money. The lady at the bank said it could be a 'black mark' and I may never be able to apply for a debit card, which seems extremely unfair if this is the case. Is there any way round this, or am I possibly fucked for life?
