the evil that is somerfield is being taken away from my area, once and for all.
being replaced by lidl. any good?
It's cheap and 'cheerful'!
I wish they'd do that in Headingley, so it wouldn't cost me £30 to buy about 5 day's worth of shopping.
although the one near me is always silent which is a bit weird. Lots of german stuff, and the sweet things are nice.
but for bits and pieces it is wonderful. I recommend:
Paprika flavour Crusty Crocs (crisps)
Sundried Toms in Olive Oil
A £2.99 Bordeaux
Aldi for olive oil.
Iceland's clearly the best of those for.
You're a thicky.
Well not totally but they have some really good stuff, the deli stuff is awesome...the artichokes are only 99p, and most of the time when I try to buy these elsewhere they're sold out, which is bad news because I love them.
They do those waffles (not potato) that are gorgeous.
And the veg is alright too.
Oh and I believe gowman has given them the peanut butter seal of approval.
they do the best budget extra virgin olive oil known to humanity.
They also had frozen pretzels that you pop in the oven and salt yourself which, to a Bavarian like myself, were tremendous.
Long live budget German supermarkets in England.
kept me alive at university.
I love Aldi.
Although you're right about the bags, I remember dreading the day I pulled my PE kit out of my bag and it was in an Aldi bag. Cheers mum.
is the best money can buy.
Well, it's bloody good anyway.
Smooooooooth all the way. I think Aldi pretend it's made by a company called Skippy.
there's blates no competition here.
Crunchy is the only peanut butter worth bothering with.
Gowman, smooth? Seriously? Pah!
And one of you falls over a lot, which proves my point ;)
To be fair though I've not had it for about ten years and it was a really rubbish brand so maybe it was a bad experience and I do like it, but I aint ever gonna give it another chance.
Any idea where there's a Netto in Manchester?
Their ad for cheap wine has just ensnared me. I must find a Netto!
Are you still standing?
I refuse to believe it.
I shall have a cycle down there this weekend and if it's not there there'll be trouble. And if there is I shall be the one outside trying to shove a 3 litre box of Banrock into my backpack.
I've not fallen...I'm sat down.
TWO. imagine the pain.
the other is being replaced by a co-op, although i'm pretty sure that just means its staying exactly the same. & its happening nationwide.
i can't stand somerfield. realy really hate it. except for the almond croissants.
as is costcutter
so one of those will probably close soon. or you'll end up with 2 co-ops.
That's what the Germans say anyway.
but it ain't right for the English.
I once found a used condom stuck to the bottom of some frozen chips from there.
It’s got an ok selection of budget booze though.
A bit little you might say,.
you couldnt do your whole weeks shop there but if you like foreign deli stuff you cant go wrong, cheeses, meats olives etc. also have nice big boxes of frozen languoistines dirt cheap.
Is that if you buy booze for a party from there, no one else will drink it because it looks scary and foreign. Actually, their obscure cheap vodka's aren't bad at all, I prefer them to Smirnoff.
isn't that great (often already mouldy in the shop) but all the German biscuits, cakes, chocolates etc. are great and the constantly changing home goods section often has some gems.
has very cheap Staropramen and Leffe at the moment.
although they do try to turn sections of it into an (indoor) outdoor market if that's your thing?
We used to do our big family shop there. I wish I were near a Morrisons now. I particularly enjoy their bread and some of the comedy fish on the fish counter.
Mind you, I always get the giggles when I see dead fish. I'm not sure why.
Anyway: Morrisons is ace.
there are some areas where it falls down, but I think Morrisson's is my fave.
I fogive you as you have a headache and clearly have never been to Sainsbury's or Waitrose or possibly even Tesco.
and that's all I need to sway me.
Oh and the sausages on the meat counter are really good.
THIS IS VERY POOR. SEE ME. 1/10.
pickled roasted peppers are great.
chorizo is passable.
sundried tomatos in olive oil are also good.
cheep fruit juice
basically good for cheap basic things which might not be top notch for your health
lidl pizza is the best thing
oh and lasagne
its a barrel of laughs, some of the product names are hallarious and being able to buy tubs of pants next to cheese is always amusing
tubs of pants?
