I have mixed feelings, but I'm leaning towards agreement.
I'm sometimes not sure I've seen the same footage as everyone else. Chelsea players, coaching staff and stewards did everything short of knocking Drogba out (which would also be bringing the game into disrepute) to claw Drogba away from the ref. I don't see that the club deserves much more than a warning. The individuals are a different matter, obviously.
The article is pish anyway. Refs are human and make mistakes, yeah. But so many mistakes at such a high level means you aren't good enough at your job.
It's a ludicrous suggestion (I'm reading the article now). The last time a team was banned from competing in the Champions League, or European Cup as it was then, was punishment for fans of that team breaking down protective barriers and essentially murdering 40 opposing fans.
Get some perspective.
Nice DK, nice.
What happened there could have happened with any set of fans. But the fact that banning Chelsea would creat a ludicrous disparity remains.
22 wankers proud of and praised for their wankerage is ludicrous. Their behavior is that of a child called into tea early. Ban them. We should nail them to the fucking cross and let the buzzards have their way, ey wot?
What you mean is you've got a hard-on for Chelsea. Fine, you can hate who you want. There's no rational reason to ban them though. Or at least none that you've offered yet.
As for Chelsea getting banned - Ridiculous. Drogba should be punished, Ballack as well, but why punish the whole club ?
Their conduct is never anything less than consistently disgraceful and disrespectful. How many '3 or 4' match bands will Drogba receive before the PTB realize he doesn't learn from any of them?
Where's the morality? Won't you PLEASE think of the children?
No other Chelsea player has had any disciplinary problems this year.
The reaction by certain Chelsea players was completely unnacceptable. Banning them from next season's Champions League is draconian in the extreme.
By all means throw the book at Ballack and Drogba - not the club.
You treat the cancer, not the symptoms. You feel me?
quite often though clubs are made to play matches at a neutral venue or behind closed doors. I know both has happened to Turkish and Italian clubs in the past.
of how severe misconduct that has been punsihed with a ban has been in the past. Obviously those events can't be compared to last weeks
Send out a message, ey wot? It's only fair.
big fines all round
The non playing staff should be subjected to 100 hours of waterboarding by the CIA and Stamford bridge should be razed to the ground with several tons of C4. Or is that a bit over the top?
It's simply putting them out a few games earlier than usual.
By all means, Chelsea aren't the first nor the worse. Hunt them all down, and judge them one by one.
he was an arsenal fan
banning chelsea would be amusing, but ultimately ridiculous. maybe just sever both drogba's hamstrings with a giant laser?
Besides I doubt even the most blinkered Arsenal fan would support the idea.
Often single penalty decisions aginst you, can be disputed, but when its 4 (and i think three of them were) then you will feel the ref is against you.
If you really feel that he is against you, and you are trying hard to get to play in the most important match to you, like the football match that might be the pinnacle of your career, the one that you want to play in most of all (cos im sure Drogba wanted to beat Man Utd in the cup final more than anything) then its understandable that someone would be so frustrated....yes refs should be protected from intimidation, but this is a top flight ref with plenty of people round to prevent him being forced into decisions, this is a mega important game, and to have less than the best referreeing is the let down.
If Drogba cant get angry and lose control at the point where he sees his dream game of his entire career (another chance after last year) slip away because of 4....FOUR penalties, not given, then I dont know when he can get emotional.
PS I support Man Utd and wanted to face Barcelona in the final, but do feel chelsea were hard done by
even as many as three of them were 'stonewall'ers.
if they'd all been in separate games i reckon a couple of them would've passed without much more comment than lawro raising an eyebrow.
They've been given, but it would have been harsh.
Pique's handball was among the most obvious I've seen, even in real time. The ref was practically on top of it too.
The ref actually blew for a foul on Malouda, so no doubt there. He was just too blind to see it was in the box.
Drogba was pulled back. Not sure it was a definite, but I reckon the vast majority of refs would have given it.
I honestly don't understand how some people maintain know of the penalty shouts were justified. What's done is done and can't be changed, but they were clear infringements of the law.
Are you talking to me?
Essentially, I'm not condoning certain Chelsea player's behaviour but maintain that the ref did have a shocker
THIS IS A FUCKING DISGRACE
I also came up with a delightful witticism:
"A ban from the Champions League for a year is hardly draconian.
seeing as Chelsea have been among the last 2 or 3 teams to go out out of the CL for the last 6 years
I hate Chelsea, but kicking them out of Europe? Daft idea. Just give Drogba and Ballack some suspensions, slap a fine on them and leave it at that.
that would be a pain in the arse
lots of people are very irrational when it comes to Chelsea.
We need to restore some respect in the game.
Rarely do you see our players hounding a referee. Always do you see Chelsea players doing it. Maybe then they'd grow some bollocks and stop crying at every single decision that goes against them.
if it'd been a more orchestrated team thing then yeah, throw the book at the club by all means - see half of Man United's squad led by Keane a few years back. This was just a couple of individuals though. No need to go OTT.
and I don't want to be angry.
