Hand-Shaking Etiquette

wrightylew [Edit] [Delete] 11:19, 14 May '09

I like shaking hands with people, especially if I've just met them for the first time and got along very well. It's good.

But when someone puts their hand out, or I put mine out, to shake, I actually go to shake their hand.

What I don't do is that stupid new version where you wrap yours around theirs and swing it to the side. Like you're a pair of action heroes who've just defeated the villain. It's too corny. A little shake of the hand is fine.

The thing is, if someone goes for one of those idiot-shakes, it ruins it, because I automatically go for a handshake. And then you get a clash of hands. And you think "shit, just do their gay thing" and they think the same, and it causes the most awkward confusion.

This is an appeal to the world: please can you start shaking hands properly again.
