Music Social More…

is martin tyler underappreciated as a football commentator?

michael_w [Edit] [Delete] 14:55, 10 May '09

...cause for me he should have near national treasure status......not in a pat him on the head motty way....just as the best there possibly is...

he's just such class......never prone to hyperbole......never stretches a silly metaphor......always eloquent without garbling his sentences and trying to sound like billy big words.......weaves all the talking points in and out without sounding like he's reading from a script........equally...drops in stats and facts like they just popped naturally into his head....if he is reading from a stat sheet he doesn't seem to hide the fact...always seems to hit the nail on the head with his views...........serves up interesting thoughts that aren't just recycled tabloid talking points.............doesn't seem to wank over certain teams......fair and rational...etc....

and perhaps most vital is that he just has a naturally suited voice for commentary.......no self conscious cadences or silly squaking........a lovely voice to enjoy a match to..........never overpowers a game but just sits aside it comfortably........even manages to make andy gray palatable....

i mean really.......the man is a vital component of the country's football culture and it feels like he should be championed more...

so it starts here...

right?........right.
