Bin going since 2003 too!
Not seen it talked about much on here before...
I think you have to give it a few episodes to get it properly, perhaps. But yes, more people on here should give it a try because I'm sure a good slice of them would enjoy it.
Its one of those shows where if you see the advert for it, you'd think its shit, but it really isnt. I think the trick is in getting to know the characters etc, ie, why it takes a few episodes to get into. It also actually becomes funnier when you look at it from the point of view of it all being improvised etc, and that they get their comedy friends in to play the criminals. Comedies like that where the writers actually star in it are always great too :)
But really it's a great show because the characters and their personalities actually matter--it's not just any bunch of generic, disposable characters in such and such amusing situation. And yeah, they get some brilliant guest stars, and like you said about the improvisation. One of the best bits of the show is the extra clips over the credits--it's usually some genius bit they had to cut. Imagine all the other hilarity they're forced to leave out each episode. Most shows don't have that kind of spare footage.
Like when you know its improvised, you sense that idea of them having fun with each other when they are doing it y'know?
And all the situation sketches are just frikkin genius. Like i saw the one last night where Jim's wife comes back and shes lost loads of weight, (whom he married cause he thought she would die soon cause of her obesity, and gain her inheritance) and shes engaged to that guy that is also clearly gay, and they start having a regular gay guy chat in the restaurant when she goes to the toilet... just stuff like that make it genius :D
I am quite surprised more people on here havent caught onto its genius yet, though i can see why. They're showing it on E4 now, is that the first time its been on UK tv? cause i hadnt seen it before then... but yeah, definately my current favourite comedy show... :)
I also like that even though the characters are some of the silliest on TV, they're all so distinctly human. They're miraculously likeable and even relatable, even though they're really a bunch of incredible losers.
check it out people!
