from today, we have to take our laptops home every day from work.
great. just, fucking great.
We just lock them in our pedastels. I guess their thoughts are this:
Insurance to cover the occasional off-premises theft/drunken forgotten laptop is MUCH less than insurance for laptops left in a single building that can be easily targetted for one robbery.
That happened in our building, security guards be damned. Laptop locks be damned too.
But yes, it's a pain in the backside.
They can all VPN from home and protect us all.
In our case it's down to insurance costs but if that rule wasn't already in place they'd have done it now due to 'flu.
except most people haven't set up their VPN so it's all a bit retarded and the service desk is swamped. blargh stupid
That's definitely fucked. With our work you just connect to http://extranet.workwebsite and then it installs the necessary Java shizzle and you're away and on the network.
What WAS discovered on the great SNOW DAY was that we don't have the capacity to actually deal with a large section of the company signing in through VPN :D
there were plans to get it but the people sorting it out are useless so we're stuck switching between two different cisco software connections because there's not even a single integrated link in
(i have to lug my laptop home all the time in case the tube breaks down :( )
Or are you just meaning in terms of disasters?
We use Juniper Networks' connection thing. It's pretty sweet.
the start of this week was a barrel of laughs
if they're ill and they therefore have to stay at home, they'll be too ill to work, won't they?!
home from work anyway, it's the only computer I own that regularly connects to the net at home...
the wifi card is working fine... it picks up the wireless signal, for some reason we can only connect to the internet upstairs for about 10 minutes every week...
I just don't understand why my company, which has no real reason to be overly concerned, has set up it's own hotline. It's nonsense
don't have a hotline. I just rang to check.
They want jobs :D
But then we are an NHS trust and we are treating a suspected case in one of our hospitals.
some of the n00bs who 'replied to all' had some comedy suggestions, the best being that staff who only have to come into the office sporadically should just not come in at all. Or do any work. For the duration of the "pandemic".
Immunepig.com gag and a Winnie the Pooh and Piglet joke. OK I laughed at the latter one.
