British comedy doesn't know how to say 'fuck'

hellatronix [Edit] [Delete] 10:48, 30 April '09

I watched 'In the Loop'last night. Aside from the fact it was more depressing than funny, I thought the use of swearing in it was frankly shit. I almost expected subtitles underneath everytime a character swore. The subtitle would say 'UMMMMMMM, HE SAID A RUDE WORD!' or 'COOL!' The audience indiscriminately laughed everytime someone swore. American comedy does it a thousand times better. Larry David really appreciates the offensive nature of the use 'fuck' - my example being the end of series 2 or 3 where a whole entire restaurant of people discard any social propriety and start joyfully yelling words like 'cocksucker' at each other. Amazing, uplifting scene. It was brilliant. British comedy could never do that.
