it's pretty exciting yeh?
'cause surviving and ending up in the middle of a city twenty five miles across and full of rotting bodies would be GRATE
but i'm finding this all rather exciting.
I want to go into a coma and wake up with the entire world gone, full of rotting, coughing, swine sick corpses. Hell, I'd even like to be one of the crowd, watching in wide-eyed horror as the world just collapses in a fireball, then dies with everyone else like cattle led into an abattoir.
I was finding life too safe. When the CREDIT CRUNCH was kicking off, I was so excited that we'd plummet into a Great Depression. No sign of it yet, but I live in hope.
i'm both terrified and ridiculous excited. i just hoover up all this coverage and sort of bounce around the room in excitement. the idea of surreal scenes of border closures and deserted streets is just so much like a film that it makes me feel all butterfly-ish and giggly!
pandemics totally get me ready for the weekend
i'm finding it pretty similar anwyay!
the more mock terror i declare..........the closer i am to the tabloids brand of scare mongering...which is quite disgusting......so im being rational now and taking it all on the chin like a gentleman
I think I'm still just about young enough to loot Hamleys.
Shit, wasn't it?
some point over the next week, everyone gets very ill. lasts a few days, probably a nasty flu, people pick up after 5, 6 days, go back to normal. a few people will die - mostly old people, people who are HIV positive and so on. everything will return to normal. my main worry, since i don't have any elderly or infirm friends or relatives in densely populated areas, is that
WE WILL ALL MISS ATP BECAUSE WE HAVE PIG FLU
or even worse
ATP WILL BE CANCELLED ON ACCOUNT OF PIG FLU
depending on how bad it gets.
this strain mostly kills people aged 20-50
imagine a world with only young and older people
sorry dude :(((((((((((((
is very misleading. It's all sort of getting conflated with Spanish Flu and Bird Flu. This particular strain of Swine Flu doesn't really kill anyone; it makes them feel ill for a few days and then they get better. Viruses tend to get weaker as they are passed around more too, unless you are in RIDICULOUSLY crowded conditions, like WWI trenches, or a slum.
what would be the chances of travel restrictions being imposed, meaning non-uk bands couldn't make it to ATP?
what would be the chances of them staying home voluntarily, to be safe?
how likely would it be that mass illness would lead to the festival organisers calling things off so as not to have a load of people from all round the country, many from london (which by all accounts will be hit hardest) co-infecting eachother?
i was being kinda flippant up ^, but really, if devo atp doesn't happen i'll be most upset.
but I could also do without it to be honest.
This decade's been mental so far:
Massive terrorism, Hurricane Katrina, giant global recession, tsumamis and now a flu pandemic.
Keeps things interesting I suppose.
I've always had this weird fascination with natural / not so natural disasters and think being in one and surviving would be just super. Probably translates to 'my life's dull'.
Saying that, if the situation arose I probably wouldnt enjoy it. Even slightly. Not.One.Bit.
for some reason a lot of DiS users think that they would excel in this kind of doomsday situation and I'm not sure why
but I geniunely think, perhaps incorrectly, that there are users on here who think like this
are more likely to have read up on what to do if caught up in a zombie apocalypse
actually, i have a tshirt about it, but it was too small so i gave it to my girlfriend
DAMN YOU THREADLESS AND YOUR IDIOSYNCRATIC SIZES! YOU HAVE DOOMED ME
I SEE WHAT YOU'RE SAYING
(a la Shaun in SOTDead where he has to kill his Mum), we all KNOW a DiSser would do the right thing and not just lock themselves in their room listening to R.E.M. whilst crying about how they never even got to meet the love of their life...
Swine flu will be a summer holiday there
nuclear holocaust no
global biological outbreak no
so that they and a hardy band of survivors can rebuild society and do it RIGHT, goddamnit! i know i did.
you should probably read 'earth abides' by george stewart. makes the idea of surviving a pandemic holocaust sound really fucking boring.
apparently next week the number of cases discovered will rise EXPONENTIALLY
i'm going to start stockpiling tinned goods :D
i got a wish list.
