Flicking through the Yorkshire Post this morning, I was pretty shocked to learn that Dewsbury's MP is the infamous Shahid Malik.
He's caused anger by saying that Yorkshire will be a laughing stock in Europe if they elect a BNP MEP, apparently.
He was famous around Burnley during the riots for a video and photographs of him throwing stuff and mouthing off at the coppers - which shocked everyone because he was the mayor's son. I can't believe he's actually a minister after all that trouble he got into.
I checked his wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shahid_Malik but it looks like he's edited the section about his role in the riots himself. I wasn't surprised to see a big blue 'citation needed' hanging on the end of the paragraph.
