The horse is a nonruminant herbivore. Nonruminant means that horses do not have a multi-compartmented stomach as cattle do. Instead, the horse has a simple stomach that works much like a human’s.
And besides it's the germs involved, not the contents of the food that matter. Perhaps horse shit contains different bacteria.

I assumed they ingested everything they ate because they are not eating anything their body doesn't need. Or is that just bollocks?
