I'm thinking of going to a gig there tomorrow, on my own and I'm not sure if its a good idea...
IIRC from the station to the empire (assuming that's it) it's pretty much a straight road. Just don't go on the green.
it feels totally safe to me. Plus, the main gig venues are all on main roads and easy to get to. Is it the Empire or Bush Hall?
I went to a gig there a few years ago with a friend and when we left the venue, there were tramps outside, asking us for money. It was a bit intimidating and I was thinking "God, I wouldn't wanna be here on my own"
Tramps are everywhere!
And if you get off at Shepherds Bush Market station, you only have to walk about 200m to the Empire anyway.
no more than other parts of london outside central
but you won't be really going there.
there's a lot of homeless and muggers there, but you know, station to that venue is a short walk and there'll be lots of people around.
don't go into shepherd's bush green at night.
I've got a bit of a phobia of using the underground! Although if the bus stop is right by the green I'm screwed...
with a BB gun.
it always seems to be dark there
where you brought up in Circencester?
You wouldn't last five minutes in West Baltimore.
no wonder us indie kids have such a reputation as sissies. "there were some homeless people...God! I wouldn't wanna be here on my own"
MAN THE FUCK UP
and thats why it was intimidating. You know nothing about it.
And you've got a fear of the underground? Sweet zombie Jesus. Just get the Hammersmith and City line, it's above ground most of the way.
Should I buy it?
but: obviously. i might buy it as well.
How is it you're scared of the underground, but the much more terrifying night bus is fine?
lest they quip at you
wednesday night is chav night in brook green. have you noticed? they all come out then, it's horrible.
ARE YOU MAD?!
not alone obviously.
I worked for 7 years around Holland Park / Brook Green / Shepherds Bush.
It's hardly the French suburbs during riot season is it? Sure, there are only 37 coffee shops and a handful of delis so it's not up there with fucking Richmond in terms of safety levels, but it's unlikely you'll come back sporting a new glass bottle facial piercing.
it's not scary, you're right, but shepherd's bush green at night is not good (unless there's a fun fair which there always seems to be these days). also approaching white city and acton it starts to get more shit.
Thought you were out Kensington way.
I'm sick of those fucking fun fairs.
My gf used to give me shit for living in the Antipodean ghetto, and then I got a phonecall from her the other day saying she'd found a new place.
'Where is it?'
'<long pause> about..a block from your old place'
I only stopped crowing at the sheer hypocrisy of it all yesterday. It's been a good fortnight.
You bloody hypocrite.
I like it there. And I have to say, the neighbourhood has certainly improved in the year since I left. Westfield seems to have made the whole area lift itself up by the bootstraps
It's all me
and brook green is five minutes away, but shepherd's bush central line is also very close, so i think i can pick and choose. my postcode is w14 though, not w12.
it's a nice enough area. There were a couple of dodgy characters on the green if you go across it (one time some guy tipped over the bin, started scrabbling through it and then was accosted by some bloke). That's like, one occassion in about a billion tho.
