WHAT THE FUCK (Football Manager centric)
You know, the kind of name that emanates awesome. Usually has Mafia vibes.
I'm not aware of anyone who doesn't use their real name (or some foreign variety of it)
And the closest I can make it to is, y'know, Luca, which is just about the least intimidating name ever.
FM2009 lets you be a girl if you want.
I'm not being a GIRL manager. That's just stupid.
When they buy and sell players to they refer to a 'Fisher price'?
groundsharing with Dulwich at the moment, yeah?
There's a petition to wind them up being heard later.
"football league stability in 5 years" chairmen?
shiny new stadium being built etc?
Rumours a few years ago put a couple of players on £1200 pw contracts with five figure signing on fees. Surrey Quays was supposed to become a 8000 all seater stadium with a load of commercial stuff built in.
Everyone said it would end in tears. It seems, sadly, we may be right.
and a fan base of about 100. The amount of money flying around there a few years ago was absolutely staggering. Players being given 5 figure signing on fees, earning more than £30k part time. It was only ever going to end one way unfortunately...
who would you say's the epitome of how to make a non-league club successful and stable? burton look pretty well-run at the moment
I would say it's probably not to try and grow too quickly though. Spend your money on off field projects that will help make a club self-sufficient rather than spending way beyond your means on contracts and mercenary players. Too many of these money men concentrate solely on getting up the leagues as quickly as possible and having no off field structure to support the club.
I think Burton have done things pretty well.
Were willing to stay semi-pro in the Conference and it paid off for them both on and off the pitch. Compare where they were 10-15 years ago with now and they're light years apart.
isn't using my real name. Most of my other games are though.
Otherwise I use Piero Linguini, a name my mate and I have been using since we were 12 from CM2
Then I grew up and started using my real name.
THen I grew up a bit more and stopped playing.
what's the most you've ever spent on a player? I still can't decide whether I was being unreasonable or not, refusing to pay Arjen Robben's £104 million release fee.
I can't remember to be honest. I've tended to play with teams where I've been forced into being fairly prudent though - my current game (which reminds me, must get back to it) is with Maidstone United. Record transfer fee... £638
on totti a good few games back. worth every penny.
for Kaka on one short lived game. He wasn't worth a tenth of it.
These days I don't really tend to buy players unless it's absolutely necessary. I prefer to work with what I've already got or bringing players through the youth team.
I'm all about making stars out of cheap players - Buonette and Piatti take a bow
was worth it. i went from being spanish champions (with atletico madrid) and champions league semi-finalists to spanish champions and champions league winners
TOTALLY WORTH IT
for a 32 year old Ronaldo, just so I could play Messi, Kaka Ronaldo and Ageuro in the same team. He wasn't worth it but if you play with a top team for a few season's you end up with stupid amounts of money so it doesn't really matter.
I've just won the Champions League, as well as having a change of chairman, and now I've got £50 million sitting in the bank and nothing to do with it :(
