Put your left hand in a fist with your thumb in the middle. You then have no gag reflex.
I just tried it and put my finger down my throat and gagged
same place i got this fine collection of STDs
How about some actual cool facts about the human body, yous guys?
these are your white blood cells running around the capillaries in your eyes.
If you massage a very particular part of a someones neck you can slow down their heart. In a small susceptible percentage of the population the reflex is so strong that it can stop their heartbeat.
Fucksake that's good. I thought I might be developing early cataracts or something.
GIVE ME SIGHT BEYOND SIGHT
He also has the same nerve in his elbows and knees, meaning that in school bullies never tried more than once to give him a dead arm - having somebody pass out after you hit them isn't particularly reassuring.
He says he went through a stage in his mid-teens where he'd do it regularly to himself, pinching his arm, because he kept getting incredible visions whilst unconscious. He says that, if you want to know what it's like, take laughing gas, which feels like walking to the edge of a tall cliff... but it doesn't quite jump off like he's used to. He only stopped because he realised he could possibly end up causing himself brain damage.
good fact. i always just assumed my eyes were fucked from looking at a computer screen for too much of my life.
It looked like a route
It petrified me to think of how far along the route I was
the anatomy of the eyes vasculature and the way the sensory cells in the eye work mean u could never see white blood cells inside ur eyes.
that carotid heart reflex is pretty cool trick tho
Hmm, Id have to agree with you about the wbc thing, I mean the eye is incredibly avascular for the most part
Carotid sheath reflex isnt it? Physically innervates parasympathetic vagus nerve, slows down heart rate via M2 muscarinic receptors, through G1 G proteins, causing inhibiton of cAMP and hyperpolarisition of pacemaker cells.
not really sure, mightbe something to do with components of the aqueous humour abosrbing light.
Im not big on the eye
I doubt it, Cataracts has something to do with lens proteins going wrong I think , and they wouldnt whizz around I think.
You can see them clearest when looking up as they'll be landing right over the rods and cones, as opposed to normal, when they'd be safely out of the way.
it's called the blue field entoptic phenomenon
and then looked at the sky or something. I always see the outer edge of my vision 'beating' in time with my heart, it's a bit disgusting.
Intrestingly, we have the gag reflex at the bac to due to the glosseopharyngeal general sensory supply to it, we dont get it at the front because that part of the tounge is generally supplied by the a branch of the mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve.
