Dave at 9 tonight
but should be fun enough.
Have Grant and Naylor both written it or just Naylor? Went right off the boil after they split.
speshially if the piss poor last series is anything to go by...
At least they've dropped Kochanski for this one, why did they ever think she was going to work when they put her in in the first place? The Clare Grogan one might have worked, a 'posh' one who found them all boorish, well er....not so good.
And yeah this will be most likely poor.
You can see why her career sank like a stone after those two.
I forgot about the 7th series,
had its moments but yeah, she ruined it.
I knew it was happening but not like.. now.
but I suspect they're aiming more at the diehards.
It's all well shot and doesn't have any canned laughter. What a fucking shitfest.
THIS ISN'T DOCTOR WHO FFS
well its supposed to more like the movie they never made
as opposed to a standard episode i think.
this is dicko btw.
with the books and the crying and the tombstone
You'd think in the ten years it's been off the air Doug Naylor would have thought of at least one funny joke let alone some sort of storyline.
Rob Grant leaving pretty much killed it really, either he had most of the talent or they only worked well when together.
well maybe the testicles/tentacles one but that was on a par with richard curtis twatt gag
average, autopilot Red Dwarf followed by one of the best. Hmm.
still.. Big Suze
Compared to how awful I thought it was going to be I was quite happy. Not terribly funny but not as embarrassing as series 7 & 8.
Not sure exactly how Big Suze managed to just appear, or how they managed to save the ship from the end of series 8, but still, good fun.
that it should#ve been two 45minute things not four half hours.
i think i agree, by the time this had gotten started and the plot arc established for the rest of the series it was over before it had a chance to do anything.
it's same problem the broken up futurama films have.
I'd say it was about as funny as it was most of the time back in the day, i.e. not very. It's one of those shows where everyone remembers and likes the good bits and ignores/downplays that it was lazy rubbish for most of the time.
Agree that if they are going to have a definite plot arc, they need longer episodes. Although Sophie Winkleman in a cat suit is enough to make me set the video.
it was ok, it gave me a couple of chuckles. It wasn't terrible. Big Suze looked amazing.
I think you have to remember this wasn't an episode like we've seen before, but act one of a three act story.
It had it's moments, it set up where everyone is emotionally, set up the larger plot.
The comedy feels weird because there is no studio audience/canned laugher and the actors are clearly playing like there IS. (pausing for the laughs) etc.
Continuity between seasons has never been red dwarf's thing, so it's not exactly a surprise that they didn't explain what happened to the previously living crew(red dwarf 8)
but the first 10mins did seem to miss the mark / seemed quite awkward
Did it get any better? Surely it couldn't have got any worse.
I didn't like the plugs for channel Dave and the plot is a bit lame, but I did find myself laughing at it, probably more than yesterday's. I loved the little Starbug Smart car too.
something someones poste a pic of on a fansite.
The plot appears to have turned into something nicked from a tom holt book.
i am having a good time.
jumping the shark, but entertainingly.
Better than the League of Gentlemen movie, anyway.
hopefully it mostly just was setting up an ace third parter
Typically filled with plot holes, I think the not explaining where the woman hollergram came from was part of a joke as when they did look like they were going to get an explanation she kept on interupting. Some funny moments, no real laugh out loud moment and the first few minutes seemed really awkward but then it started to (eventually) stick.
Part 1: 5.5/10
that these plot holes are coming from. especially as hey keep talking about season 9 as if it has happened.
albeit very lazy story telling
when it stopped at 8. LOL etc
Having watched the last episode, I can honestly say that I really enjoyed it. Great to see it back, although it was a shame about the 'Dave' product placement. The dialogue was as funny as ever, the plot was a bit lame, but I enjoyed the Bladerunner homage and Chloe Annette is as beautiful as ever. I think it'd only be the coldest hearted of churls that would begrudge them a last hoorah. Well done lads, you gave me a laugh, I even knocked over my glass of wine singing along to the theme tune.
i fear a whole new series would be overkill.
Def cutting the new show into 3 sections was unwise.
I think watching it as a whole it would hold up better.
who didn't know exactly what was going on when they stepped back out of the dive bell in Ep1!
Overall really enjoyed it. Some genuinely touching moments at the end.
Feared it would be wank with out Naylor and Grant involved but despite the obvious plot holes they pulled it off okay.
Agree with 7/10 (0.5% for Big Suze in latex though!)
