why do the guardian keep misquoting david simon eh? (and some other bits about the wire and british tv)

he was on the culture show last year....and they have him down as saying.....'fuck the average viewer'.........but he actually said....'fuck the casual viewer'.....quite a distinction.....i've read their version like three times now.....it's wrong,wrong,wrong.

anyway......this from the guardian piece on how we should appreciate a wider range of telly, not just the wire....

''I wonder whether we are capable of having a debate about popular drama that includes other shows - shows that reach a broader audience and includes a wider part of the creative community - or whether the media will remain obsessed with Mad Men, 30 Rock and The Wire''

those other shows include my family and not going out.
