Do I join the (probable) masses who will have gathered to see Big Al?
only as a sane observer obviously

I bet more people go to see Shearer than went to the G20 protests
I was toying with going myself. Studying for tomorrow's exam won out
It was a close call though.
Do it
and report back on all the "happenings"
may as well make the most of nice day out before you get relegated.
it was as if we'd won some kind of trophy
or like match days were when we were a really good team and it was exciting and enjoyable to go.
I know I wasn't all that old when we won the first division but it did feel like the kind of atmosphere I remember from when I went to the victory parade for that.
It also made me feel like we're getting just what we deserve with this (for good or for ill).
and does anyone else think that perhaps it's Dowie whose going to be the real day-to-day manager with Shearer as a sort of frontman/motivational speaker character ?
and also again
y'know those people you see interviewed on SSN and you think maybe they're just picking out the handful of really loudmouth nutters?
they really are all like that.
I wish I'd gone down now!
I'm really looking forward to Saturday now. The atmosphere the day Keegan came back was amazing, might be even better on Sat.
The atmosphere's going to be amazing
I don't have tickets but I'm going to the beer festival at Newcastle Uni so I might wander a bit further up and soak up the vibe.
the game isn't on tv is it?
Nah, normal Sat 3PM job.
Is the beer fest students only? I may have a mooch down post-game
don't think so
and if it is i don't think anyone will notice/care about anyone else sneaking in
It's not students only.
They hold it during the easter break to avoid them.
Ha ha, fair enough
I think I'll pay a visit after the game then.
There'll be no beer then.
It used to start running out on the Thursday night.
Then we drew with Bolton
Let's hope Shearer doesn't take so long to get settled in.
Well, Keegan drew 3 and lost 5 of his first 8
Shearer does that and we'll be long gone by the end of the season!
I thought that about Dowie.
I'm not sure what else he'll be doing.
^Not Newcastle fans^
Those men aren't topless.
Zola had already begun his managerial career
and Clarke had years & years of top flight experience. Whilst I quite like Dowie as a person, he hasn't got the best track record.
They were fucked already to be honest.
I mean there was no way in hell they were gonna stay up as things were. I'm guessing they're gambling on Shearer's appointment giving a short-term bounce in confidence and support from the fans in order to scrape just enough points to stay up.
I don't think they'll do it but I can see how taking a massive gamble was probably better than doing nothing. Don't get what Dowie's doing there though.
terrible team, club, owner and fans
it seems as if football fans around the country will party in the streets if they do down. Although I'm hopeful, I still fear they'll escape somehow. Fingers crossed though.
As much as anything else
I hate the "Great player = great manager" argument and, for that reason alone, want the years of speculation about Shearer taking over to end with him falling on his arse.
i'm not terrible am i?
i always thought we could stay up, but that it would be very close. like maybe even not losing to villa and results going our way.
that was obviously based on the teams around us all being as shit as they have been.
i'm trying not to get swept up in the shearer madness and know that all this is going to do is give a confidence boost. but it's one that should see us beating sides like boro and pompey when they come here and maybe being a bit braver against in the away games than we would have been with Chris Hughton in charge.
