accidentally asking someone out - worse thing ever?

hellatronix [Edit] [Delete] 16:17, 31 March '09

if you don't include death, amputation, etc

On my last day at work, I had loads of e-mail exchanges with colleagues. One of them, who worked in the same 'sector', kept sending me messages going 'We're REALLY going to miss you'. I was like 'er, London's dead small. I'm sure we'll run into each other. You have my e-mail etc'. He kept going on like this (via e-mail for ages) and then throwing in oblique remarks about my appearance, and repeatedly saying how sad he was I was going...until I got a message going 'It'd be nice to see you after your exams'.

In order to be polite, I eventually said, 'Well, you have my mobile and my e-mail, so I'm sure we could meet up for a coffee if you're in the area!' (i used an exclamation mark) Of course, I wasn't serious as it would have been weird.

and then I got another message going 'Sorry, if I hit the wrong note. Have you read about the Biafran war?' (the Biafran war was related to an earlier conversation) and a change of subject, thank god.

IT WAS SO AWKWARD. He gave me a kind of oooh-got you look as I was leaving. I HATE STUFF LIKE THAT.

Have you ever accidentally ended up asking someone out who you really really didn't want to ask out? Is this even possible?
