Whilst reading various articles yesterday, I came across quite a few words I hadn't heard before:

recondite: little-known
querulous: grumbling, given to complaiing
irascible: marked by hot temper and easily provoked anger
brio: vigour, vivacity
homophily: tendency of individuals to associate only with like-minded people of similar age and ethnicity
prurient: having indecent desires
