does anyone do this? why does it need to be pre-heated?
So it's at the right temperature when you put the food in.
Happy to help.
i always just throw the food in straight away, and have no problems with it
and 15 minutes? what kind of ancient oven are you using
It takes 10-15 mins for my oven to get fuck hot (over 240c).
Assuming by 'cooking from scratch' you mean making the dough.
Otherwise if I grab one of those thin and crispy base pizzas from Tesco they take about 10 mins too.
Electrics are complete bastards. Though the convection ones might not be.
I remember going to a friend's house in Uni and remarking how odd I found it that they had a gas hob but an electric oven. He responded that it was a safety measure so that you "didn't gas yourself". I laughed quite a lot; he did physics with me too.
it needs to get to the specified heat for cooking
I use a gas oven. I'm almost certain there's not even any difference between most of markings on it...
Correct amount of cooking time is always 'enough' at 'hot enough'.
Seriously, isn't pre-heating from the 30s or something? Your modern oven gets to its set temperature in couple of minutes. That's certainly how long it seems to take for the gas to die down.
maybe biscuits or something.
Other stuff, just put it in. Saves time and energy. DO IT.
Certainly with my current oven you seem to need to - not sure if it needs the full 15 minutes I give it though.
I was asked if we had a pre-heated oven.
for stuff that requires baking, you really need to preheat.
if you've ever made a toda in the hole, or a yorkshire pud, you'll understand.
or a souffle for that matter
sensible, to the point, informative, not glib or smug.
i like this reply.
I rarely pre-heat for other stuff, it just takes longer to cook.
in my old flat it was always in a 'preheat' state as my flatmate used tosue hte oven as a heater.
My new oven in my new flat has agaz hob and electric oven..witha fan...
How do you use fan ovens? It is one function of the oven..not automatic like I thought fan ovens were
