any tips on how to ease it out of its newly found home?
cos a little bit of warm soapy water around the bottom would probably shift it and shouldn't leave a mark if you clean it quickly
i spilt lager over a few coppers and never cleaned it up, i used a chisel to remove them.
It wasn't kind to the desk, maybe try a different approach with glass
get a maid
and always wears glasses, v-neck sweater, shirt and tie. He is turning into a librarian.

Heat or solvent based degradation: warm water, or detergent/ soap
would that not work?
But I love fire, and the idea of taking a lighter to the base of a glass, and the flame dancing as it hits the base is worringly exciting.
and the aforementioned vessel will return to the kitchen ledge after a good clean.
