Daily Mail GOLD
this is the first time i've properly read an article about 'our' Jade, some of the quotes are plain shocking.
"Both women ended up as a kind of royalty, one ancient, the other that modern monarchy called fame. They had the power of changing a room when they joined it. They made people happy and excited, which may not be a degree course, but is a talent nonetheless."
"But they had a way of bypassing conventional intelligence and making an intuitive connection with a crowd which unnerved some commentators - especially men.
Both were expert media manipulators, yet universally adored for being 'real'."
I can't wait until this all goes away.
fuck this right off. After reading the highlights (thanks svenrokk) I'm not clicking on that. If we can vote though, my choise is NO.
"Did Jackiey cry because she knew in her heart that the wrong woman was dead?"
what a fucking bitch thing to write.
before jade was told about her cancer pretty much all of britain fucking despised her and all of a sudden she was universally adored for being real?
What the fuck? What a bunch of hypocritical cunts.
at what point did jade become a new peoples princess?......i mean...im sure it could have happened behind our backs....us not following her much.....but the period between the race row and her being told she had cancer......were people this in love with her then?....was she held up as a hero for our times then?.......or is it all because of the cancer that there is this cloying love in..............like i say.....its sad....its an interesting comment on media/fame......she played the system well..........but all these gushing tributes and her canonisation......what the fuck is going on....
I'm pretty sure between the race row and the cancer she was not held that high in esteem. It just seems to be due to her dying publicly and having kids that there is this outpouring for her. I doubt the sincerity of a lot of the media articles about it tbh, I think they just know putting her on shifts copies.
I saw OK is all in black this week, after their before-the-fact tribute issue last week. They make me sick.
The media seem to feel like they have to say "Wasn't she amazing?" to make up for all the ill they spoke of her when she was still alive. Princess Di is actually a good comparison in the sense in that the media were absolute cunts to both of them while they were alive, then went on a massive guilt binge and attempted to canonise them after they died. They don't seem to have realised that the actual sensible, decent thing to do would just be to not be cunts to them in the first place, with the added bonus that we wouldn't have to put up with their melodramatic attempts to salve their own consciences later on.
i really can't, i don't care at all about any of the people involved, the people who read it or the people who write it. it's a fucking joke, a bad dream that won't go away. some people wondered why others didn't think to have pity and sadness on the day of her death - well because we knew it wasn't the end, and we'd now be bombarded with books and films and fucking hagiography. the same people who called her a thick racist, "face-of-broken-britain" now emotionally blackmail the sane members of society into feeling something. otherwise you're not human are you? how can you not feel anything you monster? that's what they're saying, and today i've had experience of being told i was horrible for not having ANY opinion on her death. not that i thought it was good or bad, but that i didn't think it merited talking about - THAT was scandalous.
enough's enough, i couldn't care less about either of them and this fascination is bordering on a national mental illness.
this is just our most visible symptom.
i asked her what she thought...and she said the hype was quite over the top.......but she made a bit of sense about why people are feeling like this...
a) she over came the original bb hate....people like a lazarus story....the same way we like to turn on those we love, the public like to love the ones we turned on. probably.
b) she was genuine and had charm...my mum said about this paparazzi programme where they were following her and she was like..'well if you're following, you might as well help with the shopping'...and got them to carry her bags. now, that's either genuine charm or a knowledge of the game....either way...you can see why people would like her for stuff like that
c) said what she thought....spoke her mind etc...
d) a mum wanting to do the best for her kids
e) normal as normal
so....i can understand why there would be love for her.......a terrible disease tips it over into making her a saint.......not that i agree....but you can srot of see where people are coming from......i think the real villains of the peice....as usual...are the tabloids for exploiting the grief......squeezing out every last tear.........
this feels awful but it's interesting to compare all of this with john peel....just a regular public figure to most...nothing special.....'just a dj'..etc.....but someone who really touched many lives with what he did and quite an outpouring of grief when he died...books, commemorative issues, more than one specially released cd.......i dunno......maybe a bit of middle class snobbery going on.....
*awaits barrage of bile at comparing jade to peel*
so be gentle
With regards to the public interest and media bombarment....she basically is Diana.
or was he calling her the peoples princess mk2
John Peel did a shit load for the music industry, bringing bands that most wouldn't have heard of to the masses and giving so many a chance. He did this because it was something he loved and not because he wanted to exploit celebrity. He always presented himself well and came across as a genuinely decent guy with a real love for music and what have you. He actually contributed something great.
Jade on the other hand, I'm sorry but she was atrocious.
come on.....play with it...'He actually contributed something great' that's such a subjective statement....of course he did....but only for us.....all the people that are greiving over jade would be like....'so...what....he just played records then?'..........you just have to step out and squint a bit to see the comparison .......and...i dunno.....maybe a bit of hypocracy.........
but what I fail to see is what the hell did she contribute. And letting cameras follow her about and asking the cameramen to help with the shopping isn't contributing. She spoke her mind? Yeah, and ignorance and casual racism spewed out. Mum wanting to do what is best for her kids, fair enough but what mum wouldn't.
although that is now seen as making young people aware of cervical cancer...............it's just about understanding how many people feel about her....seeing it from the other side...where you say dick, they say deity...........so my point is....we can get angry at the tabloid manipulation of the grief...the cloying cannonisation....we can shake our heads at the level that people are greiving for her and the hysteria...peoples princess 2 guff...but you can't really get all indignant at people feeling something for a public figue who they thought they knew and who they thought was a charming person... who they liked etc etc.....despite what we think about her....
we arent comparing you to jade
oh viky vik vik vikeroonie vikers....you are precious, you really are...
the other day as a joke.
Never did I think this all would get so ridiculous...
Lets ignore it now, because unlike most problems, this IS something that when ignored, will go away.
I was dead upset when Peel went, and it hadn't struck me that there might be someone somewhere who felt that kind of affection toward Jade. I'd just assumed it was a story being used as a kind of real-life soap opera by the media to sell papers. Realising that there are people who genuinely feel that way, I have a lot more sympathy for the fuss being made. It's still over the top, but at least it's rooted in something.
the tabloids have just pounced on it in their charming way.......she fed the beast a bit...but im not sure her selling the rights to her wedding gives the tabloids freedom to show her dead body being carried from the house...a commemorative issue before she has died.....a front page of her cheyne stoking...'jade screams so neighbours can hear....i don't want to die'.......etc etc........they see the grief now...they hype it up to sell papers and become the pulse of the people.....as usual its the tabloids that are the worst part of the whole thing.....
i am actually in awe of the editor for putting this out.
yes, it was another soundbite from me... sorry.
Really, the man is wielding a ridiculous amount of influence here. He was hired by jade to put her on the front page.
Jade Goody (RIP) should not be front page news, There is an illegal war on (still). The economy of this planet is undergoing a massive correction, there have been aircrashes, evidence has been found that israel committed war crimes and PEOPLE WHO ARE FAMOUS FOR A REASON DIE EVERY DAY. Yet day after day, there she is.
If Stephen Hawking had died on mothers day, JADE GOODY WOULD PROBABLY STILL BE ON THE FRONT PAGE TODAY.
The tabloid press know that this will sell papers, Max Clifford knows this will sell papers, it's reality as a soap opera framed as news, and it's addictive once you are hooked on it. But it's not "NEWS" And though it may position me as a snob or some such, aren't we better than this?
I can see clear reasons why it should be in the newspapers. Cameron being an influential individual, and emotional issues that affect him may affect his actions, which affect other people- , yes, therefore i say it is NEWS.
front page? depends what else happens in the world that day.
However, a gawdy month long series of front pages expressing the "grief of a nation" from every inconceivable angle... prior to the death , during , and after?
"David Camerons son's room is empty now- by his weekly cleaner"
" is David Cameron's son the new jesus?- both were babies once" ?
I think we know the answer to that. No, it's not news and shouldn't be on the front page.
of course this is just my opinion, reality suggests that jade goody should be big news before and after her death, regardless of what i think things should be like.
