And don't like nice ales or lagers.
i'll drink what i want
Am I spared?
you said they should be entitled to in that "i love hipsters" thread the other day
I wish I could tell what the ABV was just by sipping. Actually I suppose you sort of can if you just go on rankness
The landlord's name was Tony.
Stop taking the indie high ground over a fucking BEER
is he indie?
when you come home stinking of your mass-produced fags and mass-produced booze?
sure, the "die" part blatantly isn't serious unless you're a complete psycho, but why does it matter? If you think they're missing out, then that's their loss.
I <3 Stella
was 2.1%, now 3.3%.
That's significant, right?
real beers tend not to
as indeed is the case with almost all beer.
this is good! well done! it's like an old me thread but FLIPREVERSD
whoa, calm down guys. This place is getting more and more predictable in its snap-negative reaction to anything remotely 'indie' by the day.
In summary: you're all dicks.
the more people laugh at try hards trying to show off their unique and refined tastes and habits the better drowned in sound becomes
banging on and on about how much everyone tries to show off their refined tastes and habits.
IT DOESN'T MAKE YOU LOOK CLEVER.
if i was trying to look clever i probably wouldn't be on drowned in sound in the first place. i think your equality signs could be reversed and your post would be a lot more accurate
it's just an incredibly silly and somewhat prejudice thing to say, although I realise it could well be a wind up.
what a horrible bugger.
not everyone can afford nice ales and larger. That doesn't mean they should die.
not that the original sentiment of the thread is any less ridiculous
and which would be received totally differently if someone else had posted it. still like i say, i'm glad i'm thought of as a serious and earnest person.
why did you post this?
but i was trying to get people talking in a humorous fashion rather than ripping me apart/taking me far too seriously. other people post plenty of similar threads and don't care loads of abuse for it
there's not really much scope for humour
i think people who eat shitty mass produced food should die too. people shouldn't put gross, foul tasting rubbish in their bodies.
they probably will die
I'll eat and drink what I want to. Food/drink taste different to certain people, these things are obviously not universally bad tasting. It's not like I think, yuck this tastes horrible, lets eat it anyway.
and i care because. i don't really care. i was just trying to provoke some debate on a Sunday afternoon.
i also care because seeing people eat gross food makes me feel a bit nauseous.
i also care because i can't understand the logic behind people in my local buying a pint of fosters for an identical price to some very very nice beers
watery stale piss, possibly? Not nice at all. I don't particularly like Fosters or Carlsberg either.
A pint of Stella or San Miguel however is lovely.
I'm of the opinion that many mass produced lagers are horrible and then others are nice, it's the same for ales, bitters (to a less extent, I don't really drink them very much). It's not at all guaranteed that going into a pub and buying a local beer you've never heard of, is going to make it taste nicer.
i never said some of the bigger ale manufacturers and to a less extent some of the big lager manufacturers aren't very tasty
well duh, of course not, do people even do this? You may hate the taste of something but if others enjoy it, then so what? I guess some people just don't have very refined taste buds, and like drinking things that taste like stale donkey piss.
having an intelligent taste in food is the same as being intelligent about anything else
is mostly found in making the realisation that everything is subjective, and that one shouldn't get carried away in one's own hubris.
getting called out on it, and then saying "well i wasn't being serious, you're all dolts"
it's such a monumental copout
Of course it was fucking stupid. I wasn't talking the literal truth.
I've made plenty of serious posts on Drowned In Sound in the horrific length of time I've been here, and they haven't looked like this.
does that a) make them all idiots, or b) make you a fool who's struggling to actually convey his tone to a bunch of strangers.
i'd say b), though if a) suits you and your cohort, let it suit you and your cohort.
and i think i conveyed my tone fine. there was a bit of serious, i wouldn't have said it otherwise. but i thought the clearly throwaway addition of "die" made it obvious that it wasn't some sort of treatise on the population's taste(buds)
you do come across a bit like an elitist cunt in this thread, sorry if you're not.
so why try and defend your point? you just spent several posts doing so. which suggests you don't think that the position you put forward is wholly idiotic. which it is.
but i don't hold it particularly dear either
as a serious and earnest person, but rather that you're thought of as the kind of person who holds stupid opinions. sorry. just sayin'.
people who eat and drink things which undoubtedly taste foul are idiots
are unrelentingly horrible.
that is slightly different.
if you drink spirits surely you can taste the difference between the nice ones and the gross ones?
everything else I've tried I haven't liked.
and yes you can most certainly taste the difference between good and bad spirits. Which is why I drink Finlandia in the russian style, which would be almost unthinkable with something even quite middle-range like Smirnoff.
is the most intelligent poster I've come across on this site. Just thought I'd mention that.
I mean in other threads too, I've seen evidence of this. So I just thought I'd mention it here. Just because I go out with Tristan doesn't mean it makes me argument irrelevant if i disagree with people being abusive towards him on a message board. Ok?
as far as I can see!
I don't even remember any of your posts/threads before that fashion themed one, and I didn't completely disagree with what you were saying either. I would've reacted in the same way whoever posted it, although I did realise it may have been a joke, which is why I didn't start with the abuse filled profanities.
just in case you thought I meant this one.
for some people "shitty mass produced beers"
is all they can afford.
beer, Oranjeboom is my fav
See ALSO though: Artois beers are very nice but have a tainted image, this makes me :(
we have the most awesome hop festival there in september, loads of morris dancing and live music and everyone gets drunk in the day time.
See also: Spitfire. Amazing ale.
I really may have to
as mass produced. i mean you're hardly talking microbrewery here...
i was hardly saying anything extreme. can we try and be moderate about this plz.
do you really think i care THIS much about it? people talk in these sort of extremes constantly on DiS and don't get a barrage of pedantic, mean spirited abuse.
I said I don't care as much as your pedantic over-analysis of some throwaway thing I said would suggest
I don't really see what your point it. I just said they're brewed in my town....
they are good quality, part of the ELITE of the tap which contains:
Oranjeboom, Asahi, Starpromen & Hoegarden/Leffe
see also: Tusker (damn good lager)
Just drink meths.
denouncing people who do something entirely common and popular? Who'd have thunk it?
Tristan is cool.
I had a picture of him in my bedroom for months, which is a true fact.
and i'm pretty at peace with myself too
but I have grown to like him as he does it in his own way :)
I'm pretty sure it's UK brewers probably make more than one bottle at a time but plenty of people have never heard of it so I should be pretty safe from beer preference-related death for the time being.
Asahi Black is interesting. The bottles state 'Export' in big letters but the back states it was brewed in the UK.
Never seen it anywhere outside of a Wagamama's though.
in a basement.
They also sell it at that restaurant Taro.
i usually pull away before ejaculation anyway. don't want not AIDZ
Many good perrys on, some real nice bitters too. Good turn out as well, place was packed, queue around the block. Had this dead good pale ale too, kind of lemony/floral taste initially, then went incredibly bitter. Delighful.
(Y) liek woah!
It was pretty great working your way around the hall trying our half pints of various different ales. Also, I learnt about some guy called 'Mick the Tick' who apparently is a tick-list ale drinker of legendary status! Rumour has it that there's quite a few playa haters on the real ale scene who don't believe he's drunk all of the different types of ales that he says he has. Contentious stuff.
I'm going to set up a micro brewery during my thirties.
My twenties - make and release an album.
My thirties - set up a microbrewery and get a keg on at a CAMRA event.
I'll drink what I like!
then i realised that i'd made the mistake of only drinking shit lager (carling, carlsberg etc.) and if i drank nice lager it was a winner. and also stronger.
but if i could only drink one thing it would be Hobgoblin.
Hobgoblin > every other alcoholic beverage
hes not an absolutist on things and he does sometimes post tongue in cheek.
and yet there is something in the idea behind his sentiment, i.e. there ARE lots of great smaller produced beers and lesser known brews, in a way it is harmful if people tend to stick with stuff JUST cos its a fmiliar brand name, which is probably due to advertising.
When going into a new pub in a new area its surely always a good idea to at least try the local brew? it is a bit negative to always pick on something that you are just 'used to'
Local ales are often just as cheap as the well knowns.
It is a shame when there are so many lovely tasting lesser known brews that are still outsold by the bigger advertising budgets.
For instance Badger and Wychwood brewery have loads of nice beers.
i used to 'just drink carling' but that was cos in birmingham pubs the alternative was stuff like 'harp'.
There IS some substance in Tristans sentiment that it would be better for people to try less obvious brews, no one believes that he literally means 'die' in his original post, so why wont people believe it when he aid it was sort of joking?
whoops, well what happened is i got pointed to it from another thread.
I glimpsed at a couple of date/timestamps on some posts and noticed what looked like 22 may, yet i misread it was obviously 22 mar
but i should have noticed.
Time to get some glasses perhaps, my faculties are diminishing
or is there some old geezer out there making one-off, individually tailored beers?
My dad does. It's rich, but not overpowering. With a smooth, golden brown sheen, like a Welsh sunset.
every time he goes to the pub and buys a pint he throws the contents into the toilet and replaces it with his own beer. DIY beer, the way forward?
this is ridiculous.
still snigger though
the sort of beer that sells because, people have heard of it, and that taste 'shitty'
