Iain Sinclair - Hackney ascension day 2.30 pm today spare ticket
Hey, I bought these as a birthday present for someone who got their dates mixed up, if anyone's interested they cost £8 but I'm willing to take any contribution or just give it away rather than it going to waste
Description:
Join cult author, poet and documentary filmmaker Iain Sinclair for a one-of-its-kind, site-specific performance in Hackney’s oldest and most mysterious structure: the partial remains of the medieval parish church of St Augustine’s. Less than a stone’s throw from the frenzy of Hackney Central, Sinclair will draw on his hotly-anticipated book Hackney, That Rose-Red Empire to infiltrate and uncover an alternative history of the borough. As you ascend all four floors to the roof of the Tower, a specially produced sound installation by electronic musician Susan Stenger (Band of Susans, Nick Cave) and the haunting vocals of performance artist Kirsten Norrie take you on a startling adventure through Hackney past and present. Through a synthesis of live and recorded voices, erased texts and peripheral histories, ‘Hackney Ascension Day’ is a ghostly local history tour like no other; a unique chance to look into and down upon a complex and contradictory terrain.
“Iain Sinclair is our greatest guide to London. He explores the mighty labyrinth on foot, from Canary Wharf to Hasidic Stamford Hill, mixing social surrealism with pavement-pounding satire.” - The Spectator
Tickets strictly limited. Three tours over the course of one afternoon.
