Apart from the obvious of course. :D
THAT'S HEADING FOR A WINDMILL FUL OF PROSTITUTES.
One of the best galleries around. Definitely worth going to. Anne frank's house is pretty good, but you have to be in the right mood for it. Heineken brewery is good novelty, only a couple of euros for a few beers and you get to pretend to be a bottle.
and the Heineken Brewery sound pretty good thanks. Im not sure about AF house. I can see its historical importance but I think its somewhere to go just to say you've been. I cant imagine there is too much to see there?
but a long time ago. You reckon its worth a visit then Jackel?
There's a good place on Zeedijg called 'The Jolly Joker', better place than many to start. Stay well away from anything named 'grasshopper' or 'smokey'. If you are after a great dining experience go to rembrandtplein and go upstairs to a place called De Kroon, have a nice meal there and make sure to wash it down with some weiss bier. the anne frank house can be a bit of a bummer and I've been to the Van gogh museum twice and it's always packed with spanish tourists. The reikmuseum is just as good if not better.
Go to cafes around the Leidseplein Area
Try and get to a gig at maybe Paradiso or Melkweg
Avoid these coffeeshops - Grasshopper, Hill Street Blues, Bulldog and Smokeys. Full of absolute idiots and ridiculous prices. Try to discover little local coffeeshops with a chilled atmosphere and reasonably priced smoke.
Have a good time.
There was a Rokerij right around the corner from where I was staying the last time in Leidseplein. The staff are amazingly helpful and the way the place is designed is brilliant. I think there's 3 of them, the one in Rembrantspein is great too.
thanks very much. Rembrandtplein, Rijksmuseum, De Kroon and Leidseplein are all my 'must visit' list now. :D
What about the countryside around Amsterdam? Id like to visit this too if you have any suggestions?
is definitely one of my favourites. Nice small place, great selection and the owner has very good music taste. Good for a game of backgammon.
Not too expensive, lovely building, lovely art work, round the corner from a really cool underground supermarket. The Henieken Experience is another good call.
If it's still there, go on the Dominos Pizza cruise. Not exactly high-culture but still fun!
Thats one for the bf. He'll love it thanks DK :D
because it's boring, too big and badly curated. Seriously. Boring boring boring.
I strongly recommend taking the train to the Hague one day and having a look at the art there. Go for lots and lots of pretty walks round the streets. Go to the Anne Frank house. Go the museum of modern art. Go to the big, airy cathedral. It's a really gorgeous city to just wander the streets of yano
there's a gallery there whose name i've forgotten - maus/something? but that was really good.
in Amsterdam, errrrr maybe the Boom Chicago comedy show - quite touristy but i had fun when i was there.
Boom Chicago is worth checking out. It's an improv comedy show and you can get dinner and drinks at it. Try to find the Boom Chicago magazine, they're available for free in most places and you'll find a pretty decent guide to Amsterdam inside.
yes it is lovely.
and that museum is pretty good.
..should you remember any of it...
I will definitely let you know :)
