FAO Geeks: Linux

blaaast [Edit] [Delete] 6 replies 18:01, 18 March '09

Which flavour of Linux should I install?

I'm currently downloading the latest version of Ubuntu. It's what I've always used. What are the others like?

Also: anyone tried to get Spotify working under linux? I'm sure it can be done.

So linux. yeah.

Who's a fan?

    • Hello geek here...

I've used Red Hat and Suse at work out of those two Suse is a lot more user friendly.

Only used the server versions though, thinking about getting a Linux Netbook when I get paid though.

I would switch to Linux Mint if they offered a studio version.

if you want a really fast and lightweight distro. it makes it relatively simple to build up the packages you need from pretty much scratch, and you'll learn loads along the way. it's also pretty stable and has rolling releases, i.e. you'll never have to one big update to a new version.

  • Ubuntu just does NOT WANT TO INSTALL

it takes aaagggeeesss to get to the setup screen and when I eventually get there my trackpad doesnae work.

    bastards.

the discs seem fine. i've made two to see if that was the problem but it doesn't seem like it.

i've had ubuntu on this laptop before and it worked a treat.

    bastards.
