I'm going to start jogging, can someone recommend me some decent/ cheap running shoes?

See I would assume this is a stupid question to ask, but I just remember watching a programme a while back that stressed you should wear the correct shoes for running or you would get wrecked ankles and splinter shin.
It's a reasonable distance for me to run home from work. Don't want to bang my knees to bits though.

this is something i'm considering.
