Visionary prose or incoherent wank?
V was in my local Oxfam and I couldn't decide.
I suspect the latter. Literary prog awkwardness.
'Crying of lot 49' is good entry level Pynchon as it is a) short, b) fairly coherent and c) a good introduction to the slightly twisted worlds he creates.
V, Gravity's Rainbow etc - the longer ones tend to veer wildly from wank to genius. Vineland is my fave.
Gravity's rainbow was good in parts, but then started to become a bit of a struggle towards the end. Not read any others.
If V is only a couple of quid, it's certainly worth a read.
