I do feel for herring though, this might get quite abit out of hand.
but just copy & paste all of that 2nd bit basically.
I'd never used tinyurl before, had wonder what the fuck it was though but one last try
I hate banks. They suck...
not to contact this bloke, was posting the offending entry with the guys name really necessary ?
which was kind of explained in Herrings text before.....i.e. that the letter having a 'personal name' is kinda faux....especially as it has a printed signature....what is the point of a printed signature?
The 'faux' in the letter is that the letter appears to be caring...it isnt it is part of 'the customer experiance' which is a business process employed by many large financial firms.....Herring was mocking the faux ness of the 'personal touch' the letter tried to evoke, because as he points out, it is a mass mailing, that is trying to appear not to be.....obviously large financial firms do not care about individuals as long as they maintain the loyalty of the majority (or the big spenders), that is the nature of big business, it is inherent.
Herring is attacking the masquerade, and if this person named has allowed their name to be used as the mask for the impersonalness of the letter then that is their look out, im sure they get paid for it.
Of course normal employees should not be singled out and identified for the anger that people might feel for an overall company or industry, but the named person in this case has been complicit in aiding the 'fauxness' of a corporations attitude.
If the bank (and the named person) were sincere they would say 'Dear blah blah, althogh there has been a further cut in interest rates we will not be passing it on to you (even though that was the intent of the treasury(who kind of own us)) because we need to be most concerned about our bank, to us our bank is more important than you, although you as a custome are important in that we need you, but we are probabluy not much worse than other banks, so as long as you dont think this it is ok to us'
to be used as a tool to help with the insincerity, therefore his name is not just his property really, it has already become a tool.
As for all the stuff about the incitement....well its kind of been established that corporate and administrational understanding does not include 'irony' or 'satire' in its lexicon
If you read my post again you'll see I meant why did lovelessrapture post the original article with the guys name in it not Herring.
But thanks for explaining.
and i mistakenly thought that you were asking why herring had, not lovelessrapture, sorry again.
in which to read it all quickly
but it gives you a better idea of what his original piece was (it doesn't seem to flow as nicely with the edits), then it's easier to judge whether he should've got in the shit or not. I'm not a huge one for censorship anyways, but that's another discussion.
Although he probably gets some real strange fans whom would've rung up etc. Like I donno if you've seen the Hercules Terrace show, but he mentions how one of his 17 year old fans offered to come stay with him & be used as virgin bait to lure the lockness monster out.
I'd rather he'd literally just changed the names and stuck a disclaimer at the bottom. It just doesn't seem as funny reading through the new version. It's a fair point that he probably shouldn't have used the guy's real name though.
Im sure you have enough room in your heart to hate both
we REALLY want to know.
he's rather funny actually
And seemingly having no sense of humour
