I've never heard of them but I'm thinking of going to their gig in June.
esp if you like reminiscing over 2nd gen emo.
Kinda like that.
if you don't mind a spot of crying on the floor really hard. They have massive riffs and stuff though, and are fucking great. I'm going to see them at the Barrowlands, fo'sho.
the main result is 'Simply Red "Brand New" Hospitality Package'. This amuses and sickens me in equal measure.
that I've only heard one of their songs and based on that, I suggest you sell your ticket.
Make of that what you will. It's like having Arfur Daley recommed a car for you
I like to dip my toe in the water though, rather than get up to my neck in it.
I do like them, though
Zonino will be so much better.
I've heard a fairly recent album and it was just whiney nu-emo American rock.
Basically, if the songs that soundtrack episodes of Smallville are your idea of great music then "Brand New" are for you.
Let your waters break right through
the lyrics tip them over the edge and make them good songs
No one needs a Linkin Park that take themselves even more seriously.
and I don't think they do take themselves seriously, it is the self awareness and occasionaly humour in the lyrics that I think seperates them from the rest
so its just a bit silly
I like the sound of the second album.
I prefer the first album to the third.
I've seen Taking Back Sunday live, too. If you need me, I'll be in my room carving lyrics in to the wall, thanks

which was that lyrics do not make a song for me if the music and style of that song are not good in the first place.
I'm rarely impressed by lyrics in any case unless they really stand out in some way such as on a lot of Shellac, ATD-I or Art Brut songs.
wouldn't be remarkable or innovative musically, and that if you have ever enjoyed american alt/indie-rock then there isn't really anything to dislike in brand new
I don't like them that much, I just think they are a band that get automatically written off when there is more to them than they get credit for
and if you think Shellac, ATD-I or Art Brut are then that's a bit odd.
I seriously don't think Brand New are a good band and their lyrics aren't something that is part of that consideration. That said I have no idea at all what Royter really goes for. If I did I would probably have phrased my reply in a way that made his decision easier.
I guess I think saying that brand new sounds bad is like saying I dont like the sound of american alt/indie/rock music which would be an unlikely statement for most people using this site
You've got your Shakepeare set to dirge, you're not gonna get the results you're looking for at that setting. What I'll do is crank him up to genius for a few years and we'll see what happens.
DUN DUN DER DUN DUN DUN DERDUN
it's absolutely amazing.
*taps comedy meter*
when there are a myriad of websites where you can go listen to them and judge for yourself? that would probably be quicker and easier than asking the question on here. personally, i think they started off a bit shit, but are now pretty good. they were also suprisingly good live.
(wow, first post and i'm already a condesending prick)
and yes, go and see them, they are fully amazing live.
I am going to fight you at Zonino. I am going to win.
haha, I was searching something completely unrelated on the boards - then went away from my computer and came back not realising I was still on a page of search results....saw this thread...checked it out...my point still stands - ZONINO IS FIGHT NIGHT.
enough times that you go to check them out.
And then you very slowly lift the headphones off, place them tidily beside the computer, drag the folder marked 'Brand New' to the trash and go and cook dinner.
a level of irony that I didn't understand? I'm feeling a bit panicky now - I've been getting threads wrong all week.
where I realise that a fair proportion of you have gash music taste.
This site has lost its power over me now.
