I watched "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" yesterday and didn't find out it was real until afterwards.

Surreal more like. When it started I realised I didn't know for sure if it was a documentary or a spoof, but once we saw Slash, Lars and members of other famous bands saying how much they liked them I assumed it was a joke. Then the drummer was called Robb Reiner and I assumed this was some HEAVY HANDED HOMAGE to Rob Reiner who directed and starred in Spinal Tap.

But no, after watching some ludicrous, ironic moments (the weird similarity to The Wrestler's style didn't help me to think it was real either) I discover that they were real. I kept thinking back to sequences in it and really wondering how the fuck that could actually have happened.

Anyway, it's actually a pretty decent film, probably much better if you like Anvil, but personally I'd have liked to know more history of the band.
