Suggest a nice restaurant in Glasgow for tonight that isn't Italian, Tapas or "asian fusion"......
but it's really fucking good
i was there for lunch today, £9 for loads of different bits and peices.
is that the one that does "authentic" scottish food? "authentic scottish food" is crap.
on Albion St is really nice.
It's a Russian restaurant.
Really nice food and great Russian beers.
Also: the Sisters on Crow Road, La Fiorentina (i know this is Italian, but it's not just a pizza and pasta rubbish place and i once sat next to Alasdair Gray), Balbirs on Church Steet - Indian, Parthenon - Greek, Two Fat Ladies is good if you like fish and go to the west end one, La Parmigiana - again Italian but it's superb, the Chip is pretty expensive but idk what your price range is, Ann Lochan on Crow Road if you want fish, Stazioni or Lux which is upstairs from it on Great Western road are pretty good...
For cheaper stuff go to Stereo on Renfield Lane, which is all vegan or Grassroots cafe.
You should probably go for a curry- the ashoka, mother india, balbirs, mr singhs...they're all good really.
great Japanese food
although i'd say OKO express is better. it's only 30 seconds up the road and the food is AWESOME. Their yasai tempura is awesome. And they're open 'til 5am on weekends!
Mono is good
The Left Bank in Gibson Street
The Pakistani Cafe in Pollokshaws Road
but that's in the process of moving venue (to the Merchant City) at the mo.
Hotel du Vin for the posh end.
Mono (King's Court) gets the thumbs up too. As does it's sister place, The 78 (Kelvinhaugh Street, off Argyle Street - used to be called Stereo).
Balbir's (Church Street, br Byres Road) is utterly frikkin tasty. Straight up Indian, so not Asian fusion. Go for the "some of everything" banquet option.
Two other top straight up Indian's: the Dakhin (South Indian, good for couples) & the Dabba (north Indian, good for groups). Both are on Candleriggs and owned by the same folk.
Also Tibo on Duke St in Dennistoun is nice. As is Coia's (tho it's Italian).
Failing that, target rich city centre environments (if you're new to town) are the Merchant City or mebbes Bath Street. Both have decent places and some bars around for afters.
Nom nom nom...
gonna bookmark this, cheers! x
but I read this thread title as being extremely sexual
As said above is quality. I dont know why but i went to Stravaigin 2 which is in the wee lane across from Hillhead underground station and it was even better. They Bothy next to it is ok too. Real nice atmosphere but the food isnt any where near as good.
Koolba in Merchant square used to be amazing, Persian place. Quality meat and breads. I think it moved across the road to the Candleriggs a couple of years ago. Not too sure what it's like now though.
If you're loaded the Ubiquitous Chip is always good.
Raostit Bubbly Jocks on Dumbarton Road (big, hearty rustic and scottish)
Crabshakk on Argyle street (lots of great fish with a buzzing atmosphere)
Cafezique on Hyndland Street (again buzzing atmosphere and great food, although a tad pricey)
Cafe Gandolphi in Albion Street (great food and a great bar up the top)
I second Ichiban, whoever said that.
And Roastit Bubbly Jocks.
All on or very near the glorious Dumbarton Road in Partick, a kingdom unto itself.
i asked for a pizza from there once at 3:30am and the guy disappeared round the corner for a second and produced me with a box, then chuckled, 'haha, i tell you! fastest pizza in all of glasgow! hey-hey!'
needless to say, i keep visits to a minimum.
to sizzlers steakhouse in merchant square,id recommend it if your lookin for a nice steak, the bbq sauce is amazin!
I really must try it.
