it's one of the old thick ones from the days when the colour display to display photos was a novelty and the video ability hadn't yet arrived and it has the following faults:

the menu button doesn't work
neither does the |<<
neither does the turn off function of the play button
neither does the hold switch
nor the top half of the wheel when scrolling
if you leave it on it's own the backlight will flash on and off every now and again of it's own accord

but the cons of getting a new one include:

losing a lot of music, podcasts and audiobooks that i don't have any other version of
the faff of having to import a load of songs onto the new one
the cost
