does Zonino or a similar event cost?
should anyone know...
I believe Zonino! has never cost bamos money because we've come along and made sure the door takings covered all costs.
Actual monies required, though, are usually a cost for the sound engineer between £40 and £80 approx. plus costs for the bands. Some bands want £100-£200ish to headline, others just play for the fun; in between are those who'd like you to cover their costs but aren't bothered beyond that.
I'd always budget £200 for such an event as the amount I can stand to lose, but you'd never expect that to happen.
I wanted to know how much I might lose.
If you tell them you're not going to make a profit and lay out the costs involved then most bands will play for free or just transport costs, on the assumption that they'll get a cut from the door at the end.
This is how it's always worked for me. Bands want to play gigs more than anything except getting ripped off. If you're sure you'll get a load of people down and will pull in £400 then you can afford to be paying the bands £80 each and still have £80 for the sound guy.
Between the bands you could expect that all equipment necessary could be got to a gig for about £60 tops, unless they have some pretty special requirements or one of the bands won't be sharing stuff. So if you're only paying for a sound guy or a flat fee for hire, and we assume that's not more than £100 then if no one came to the gig you'd be looking at needing £150 minimum readies to hand to put on a gig, yeah?
It's not too hard to find a venue that is free, but with a sound guy for the night at about £70 (and where the venue don't ask for a percentage of the door takings).
At the minimum, you should look to cover the bands' and DJs' transport costs, and I'd provide them with food and a drink (or two) as well. Some will want more (either as a flat fee or as a share of the door receipts).
Will you need to promote it, or is it a family/friends invite thing?
I only came up with the idea today.
I just want to have a day called Fullerov Day to which people would come and things.
£600 barely covered the cost of their rider.
When and where and who and why?
That is a bloody nerve.
