recommend good new authors

We always go craving 'newness' in music but then retreat to the classics and standards when fiction is involved. Let's redress that balance.

Richard Milward
2 novels: Apples and Ten Storey Love Song
Hyped as Boro's JD Salinger or Irvine Welsh. The Wayne Rooney of British writing.
The hype is a bit silly but I've really enjoyed his books.

Stefan Merrill Block
1 novel: The Story of Forgetting
20something American author, his book has some really nice writing in it. Enough to forgive slightly clunkly moments like calling a hunchbacked character Abel. Its the kind of story that would probably go down with precocious literate young adults and even some of the Richard & Judy crowd. He could be really popular one day.

Joey Comeau
2 novels: Lockpick Pornography* and Overqualified (out this summer)
Dark humour and rude times. Playful in a sarcastic way.
